Far too excited. Song for Five and Six gets better and better the more I listen to it. Golly, those Synths are great. Everything around and including "Do you agree, or disagree" is just brilliant, and those percussive hits make it even more interesting. There is so much energy in it. So much emotion in it, and after "boys on the ball" when it sounds like the strings come in with the Synths for the superpolyphony near the end... I don't know what to say.
^It would be hard to say anything but "It's fucking deadly, listen to it!". I am fangirling in the best possible way.
It's funny since I did know this song and have heard it many times before from the many live videos on Youtube, but the Studio version is just a different beast!

The record has been pushed back to May 26/27, but will still be available at all release shows. Record Store Day backed up the pressing plants, no biggie! we got this. Here's a video Robert Binet choreographed and Jeff Scheven directed for Song for Five & Six, feat. students from the National Ballet School of Canada www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr_SbrFIuKA

Wonderful video!
Boy this wait is probably gonna kill me. Will do anything for someone/pay much money for someone that wants to pick me up a record and send it to me from one of the shows (seriously)
Also: is the release on digital formats affected as well?

It took me about 5 listens to get the 'sound' of "The Riverbed" going, and I'm gonna have more trouble with "Song for Five and Six." I had to build a whole different set of listening expectations to match the shift away from orchestral timbres and instruments. I guess synthesizing is an automatically personal enterprise; it forces the issues of timbre in a way that is easy and stupid to ignore in 'orchestral' records, which is exactly what I'd been doing. Not that we even know orchestral instruments that well. But these timbres are very new to me, and I'm finding that without the psychological arc of the album I'm having trouble placing things in "Song for Five and Six" in a place I understand. I'm going to have to unlearn much of what I expect about Owen's music, rough for somebody who relies/bounces off it. But that's exciting. And it's balanced with all the other ways you're placing yourself and framing a listener's approach to the self. Still, I think I might avoid further videos until the release date. I need the arc.

Which shows constitute as "release shows"?

I already bought the album online but I'm going to the show here in Toronto haha. Well, I guess I will cancel the order if I can.

They were all release shows. We were always going to have product available for the shows, in advance of official digital+retail release. It is a bummer that the digital release is pushed back to be synchronous with CD + vinyl release, but unavoidable. I don't think it's a big deal! if you pre-ordered the digital version, just download a leak (if/when it leaks)

I can do this, but it's only a two week difference. You'll survive.

Saw Owen play last night for the AF After Show at the Masquerade in ATL. I sadly missed the beginning of his set, though I don't think I missed too much. When I arrived I could hear him playing from outside, and I think (I think?) he was playing The Butcher. But it was hard to hear and it was a long day so maybe not. But the songs I did hear:
Tryst with Mephistopheles The Great Elsewhere Song for Five & Six ?? [Bridle and Bit] Infernal Fantasy The Dream of Win and Regine The Riverbed
The '??' song was a new one that Owen said they had only played once before. I couldn't place it and the word I remember was 'shoulder' and the only song that I can see that showing up in is Soldiers Rock which I know has been played multiple times. Soooo who knows It's Bridle and Bit
But the show was amazing!! As always. Owen had two others play with him and I liked the new sound. Very tight and bombastic. Got to say Hi afterward and Owen was gracious as always. Wish he were coming to ATL to play a full proper show for the new album, but just glad I got to catch this.
