Microcastle sounds like Atlas Sound? It doesn't really sound that much like it (in my opinion, at least). Bradford didn't even write all of the songs. it sounds a lot more like it than their previous work, as a whole at least. nearly every song is accessible, and for the most part (to me at least) it resembles "Let The Blind Lead..." he's always been the primary contributor so when it sounds accessible it kinda sounds like atlas sound, since atlas sound isn't too different from deerhunter after all.

Well yeah, but Microcastle is so much more of a straight up rock thing than anything done by Atlas Sound, so it's sounds much more Deerhunter to me than Atlas Sound. Not to mention that he doesn't even sing lead vocals on one of my favorite tracks on the record. Of course there are similiarities, though, since he is in both (and the primary contributor, as you said).

entanglements feels like an album that i will listen to for a very very long time. whereas i like born ruffians and have seen them (even had to borrow my sister's id to go see them), i feel as though it has none of the longevity this album will have for me. in the ~2 months i've had it, 7/11 have climbed up into my top 26 of my itunes tracks. this does not include the ipod plays.
and there's a thank you credit to our very own o pal in it

Moriarty with Gee Whiz But This is a Lonesome Town It might not be the best album of 2008 but it is at least the best show I've seen this year (I could even say for years). I don't think you've heard much about them in the US or Canada which is the reason of this post. Here are some links : www.myspace.com/moriartylands www.blogotheque.net/Moriarty,4095

Hey Owen. Went to Parenthetical Girls last friday on this recommendation. Fantastic gig, that I probably liked more that the album. Also their violinist/percussionist/keyboardist girl is gorgeous. People should definitely check out Matt Carlson's American Standard album (which is free) as its totally spellbinding. I'd compare it to one of the Drag City Jim O'Rourke albums but that would be unfair to pothole... its totally great, has these weird pop songs mixed with noisy, glorious Reichy bits and deeply funny, dark lyrics. bucketfactorial.blogspot.com/2008/09/matt-carlson-american-standard-2008.html (You can download it here... this is not just a blog putting it up, its free on his myspace too.) blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=17372375&blogID=434139379Wonderful album.

You really need the new Skeletons album "Money" in your record collection. Owen was right it's excellent.
I also like the Fireman album "Electric Arguments" which in parts reminds me of some of the heavy soul tracks that Macca did with the Beatles in late 60's sessions, but got lightened up for public in the mixing. My only criticism is that it's too mainstream to fit with the other 2 Fireman albums and not a patch on Rushes which was outstanding.
