Oh My!!!
Yes, yes, I'm going to talk about Simon Bookish again but GOD!!! It's fucking amazing and so different from everything I've heard from him thus far. I really cannot wait.
"An unpredictable and dramatic "big band song cycle about science and information", EVERYTHING/EVERYTHING is a new departure for Simon Bookish, being his first album for TOMLAB. .....
Lyrically, the album's concept is "the flood of information" in our modern age, taking in chemistry and ecology, language and art, sometimes surreal, sometimes humourous, sometimes provocative, a weird blur of fact and fiction, delivered in Bookish's distinctive English-eccentric vocal. ..."
muahahaha!!! This is pure happiness for me.

I am listening to Entanglements for the first time as I type this and I have to say, much like Safe as Houses before it, I am going to be obsessed with this album for a little bit.

I am listening to Entanglements for the first time as I type this and I have to say, much like Safe as Houses before it, I am going to be obsessed with this album for a little bit. I'm not going to admit to having obtained an advance copy so I can't totally agree with you that is an impressive and obsessive album. If I had already listened I would have been swooning over it's baroque nature and commenting on the similarities to the style of The Irrepressibles, a band who has impressed me so much since first seeing them perform at Latitude last year. I'd probably also have a lot of trouble deciding on my favorite track and also imagine that Windmills of your mind will be up there as one of the great covers and overall it will be one of the albums to have on your coffee table when a more discerning music listener is dropping by for tea and pancakes

Having read Owen's description of Entanglements forever ago when he posted it, I have no idea what he was talking about (besides it myabe being the best album of 2008).

...it will be one of the albums to have on your coffee table when a more discerning music listener is dropping by for tea and pancakes Pancakes? Really?? /stomach growls embarrassingly *grrwrr* Well, I suppose since I haven't listened to a "hypothetical advance copy" all I can say is that if "A Song For Elli Greenwich" is anything to go by I'm already terribly impressed! Yesss!!!

I'm digging the new Stereolab. And still loving Portishead.

Woodpigeon's "Treasury Library Canada" is only supposed to be a collection of "songs that fell through the cracks" but it is soooo lovely, and there are several moments that give me tingles. I can't wait for their studio album due in the fall!

This is ridiculous. It's the first properly sunny day in weeks, and I am too thrilled about all this stuff to detach myself from the electricity. DoE are next on my list. I'm also thrilling about the next release of the Grizz, whenever that'll be. And Entanglements was just gorgeous. I took "This Regrettable End" and threw hyperbole all over it. (Everyone should also hear the No Kids cover of that, by the way.)
Everything this year has been so lush, you know?

OH. And I'm really excited about Laura Barrett's upcoming one, too. The newest track on her myspace bodes fantastically.

OH. And I'm really excited about Laura Barrett's upcoming one, too. The newest track on her myspace bodes fantastically. It is indeed becoming a good year after an unsteady start. I've got Laura on pre-order. I would have pre-ordered the DOE as well, but the shipping on the website didn't seem to support UK.
