Is it just me or does the album seem kinda short for it to be on double vinyl?

yeah, i considered that, but it's still not emotionally the same

and the musical moment that someone discussed also doesn't quite hit it for me

i think the thing is, the album is far less raw than any of their previous releases, so while the production here is absolutely phenomenal, and the lyrics are as intense as ever, those explosions of emotion wouldn't necessarily fit into this album

there's one element that i find oddly lacking, although i'm not sure if it's a good thing:
in every album (except perhaps la foret), there is a moment when the tension builds to a moment of release... the tradition began with "i broke up", was carried over into "sad redux o graph", and "i luv the valley (oh)" obviously had it. it's actually the first thing to attract me to xiu xiu back in the day... but this album is oddly lacking the moment of explosion

ok, that's enough random thoughts for now...

what about the electronic part in bishop, ca after the "walla walla hey"s . its not jamie screaming anything but it feels the same for me. i understand the draw of that though. the oh my gods in apistat will forever be one of the strongest emotional explosions for a song ive ever felt. even more so than i broke up. its also the first thing that got me into xiu xiu after being a god speed you black emperor! fanatic for so long. knife play and f# a# are wonderful first cousins in my mind.

as far as the legendary xiu xiu explosion goes.. i find vulture piano to be one of the most explosive climaxes one of their songs has ever had. when i listen to it in my car, i have to sing the v-u-l-t-u-r-e part and then scream the final chorus along with him. because you know, she was the best you ever had.
