Happy Birthday Freddy: after hearing so much about it, i was excited to see. They had the Dead Science guys come up and the drummer and bass player just did like grindcore.... some other dude played metal guitar... Jamie and the Dead Science singer guy screamed and shreiked through "Happy Birthday" and Caralee just threw little plastic animals into the crowd.
The Dead Science were really interesting, the way the played loose and jazz-like, taking stuff out into free-time and then back in, and keepin the songs really open. Most rock bands can't think like that.
Ida were palyed really pretty songs and were really talented. The songs were kind of long, but they had cool intstruments: an organ like xiu xiu's, a xylophone i think, violin, etc., nice stuff.
Xiu Xiu killed, even though there was a loud metal band playing upstairs that you could hear in the quiet stuff. Jamie said after the birthday song, "the rest of the set will be a total letdown now." Fuck no. "I luv the valley" and "fabulous muscles" were highlights. A lot of stuff I assume is new.
i am smitten.
