That is the coolest Xiu Xiu shirt I've ever seen. It's tour-only, I assume?

I saw Xiu Xiu for my second time at the Che Cafe this past Saturday. It was fucking great. I stood at the very front, a foot away from Jamie, which made me very happy. He even remembered me from the summer when I gave him a Smiths pin. I was beyond elated. Oohh...and he gave me a hug. And Caralee was suuper nice as well. Sorry for the lameness of my post..Xiu Xiu makes me giddy. A picture of us pretending to play gameboy:

haha, that was at the Long Beach show last august wasn't it? I was really dissapointed that they didn't play there this time. That was actually my first show ever. i've never been to the echo or any venue bigger than Koo's or a warehouse and I don't think I'm missing much, but if someone would pick me up one of the new A Promise LP's and one of those new tshirts, size small, I'd pay them for it.

My Austin Experience, by MSC I drove to Austin, tried to get to Waterloo early but tickets were sold out by the time I got there! I panicked, drove to the Church of the Friendly Ghost, where Nathan wrote out a ticket for me on cardboard (thanks!). The space was great--a rundown, ramshackle church with the pews torn out. The opening bands were competent, but they had little in common with Xiu Xiu musically. The first guy played some drone/experimental stuff; the second band was pretty decent alt-country with a twist of Mogwai/Godspeed; and the third band was kind of a fratty jam band with a horn--fun, but out of place.... Xiu Xiu Setlist: 1. Sad Redux-O-Grapher 2. Pox 3. Bog People 4. Clowne Towne 5. Hives Hives 6. Don Diasco 7. ALE 8. Muppet Face 9. Mousey Toy 10. Crank Heart 11. Fabulous Muscles (duet) (I only know the names of the new songs due to Wolfpac's posting) The space was very intimate; the crowd was jammed up next to the stage, which was only about 6 inches from the ground, so I was pretty much eye level with the band. Crank Heart and Hives Hives were especially good and of the new songs I really like Pox and Muppet Face. Talked to Jamie and Caralee afterwards and they were very kind and gracious. I took some pictures--you should be able to view them at this link: pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mhmh89/album?.dir=7811&.src=ph(What a difference a flash makes!) I will report on the Houston show tomorrow....

Overheard outside Mary Jane's:
"Dude, you think they're gonna play Suha?"
Alas, no such luck....
Houston setlist:
1. Hives Hives 2. Pox 3. Bog People 4. Fabulous Muscles 5. Don Diasco 6. ALE 7. Muppet Face 8. Mousey Toy 9. Bunny Gamer 10. I Luv the Valley O! 11. Sad Redux-O-Grapher (or should I say Sad Cory-O-Grapher?)
Another great show--sorry you weren't there. Lots of kids there. Crowd was surprisingly respectful; for a bar it was uncharacteristically hushed during Jamie's quieter songs. Friends who hadn't heard Xiu Xiu before complained about Jamie's voice sounding insincere and histrionic, but each time I hear him sing those songs I feel he really believes them. I don't know how he does it night after night....
They had a DVD for sale--has anyone else picked this up? I don't remember anyone mentioning it. It's a show from last year's tour, in Denton (TX), and it's really good! It has several of my favorite songs (Suha, Crank Heart, Helsabot (Caraleebot), 20,000 Deaths, Poe Poe, I Broke Up, etc.), and is well shot and edited with great sound quality. If you only have enough for a shirt or a DVD, get the frickin' DVD!

about that dvd. if it is not available at any other tour dates (which wouldn't surprise me, as the guy who made it lives in texas), you can purchase it online here: www.wolfe-stone.com/of course, they could have given jamie and caralee a bunch of copies to sell later along the tour, which would be cool

Wow, I cannot believe I missed the DVD. I would have definately bought it. The (houston) show was great though. I noticed that at this particular show the adults were the ones that were being obnoxious (although it was very very low-key, and I'm sure I'm the only one that noticed because I was right next to them) One of the guys was like headbanging.. I'm glad it was quiet, and I had an awesome view of the stage. Oh, and for those that went to the houston show, what the fuck is up with A Pink Cloud? Maybe I was just ancy about seeing xiu xiu (considering I got to mary janes at 7:30) But that "band"annoyed the hell out of me. Also: the first opening band, I thought they were good. I felt bad for them though, they had a few assholes yell stuff to them. I think ithe only reason people werent into them is because everyone was there for xiu xiu, you know? But yes, great show. I hope I never have to sit through a A Pink Cloud "song" again.
