By now some of you have seen the new shows--how are they? Who's on stage? What kind of setlist--mostly new songs or what? Any pictures? I'm planning on seeing them in Austin next week, but I can hardly wait till then, so help a brother out!

I just saw them last night in San Francisco and as usual they were great. Somewhere I heard that for this tour they would have a third person on stage but at this show it was just Jamie and Caralee doing their thing. It was a nice mix of new material (not just Bog People and Ale) and "redos" of old songs. While the new songs were awesome, the quieter ones were the songs that grabbed everyone's attention, as you could hear every little harmonic and guitar detailed melody. I loved their arrangement for Don Diasco: it had a nice, fast feel.
Early in, there was some trouble starting off. Right when Jamie was getting into a new song he noticed that someone on the side of the stage had detuned his guitar, so he had to fix that. Later, some dude threw ice on stage. The show "ended" with Sad Redux-O-Grapher, played beautifully on guitar, but no one left after the song so Jamie and Caralee came on again to play Crank Heart for the finale.
Anyone else go to this show? What did you guys think?

I saw them in Merced, CA at the Mainzer on Wednesday - just Caralee and Jamie. They played new songs ("Bog People" and "Ale"), a few from FM ("Clowne Towne," "Crank Heart," "Fab"), not enough from Knife Play (only "Don Diasco" and "Hives Hives" [on the autoharp and mini-guitar-thing]), and one song from A Promise ("Sad Redux"). I was really hoping for "I Broke Up," "Suha," "Ian Curtis," and "Bunny Gamer." It was amazing nonetheless and my first time. Did they do a duet on "Fabulous Muscles" at other shows? The hush-hush songs were great because everyone was quiet. When Jamie sang "Ale," everyone shut up. Pictures? Yes - photobucket.com/albums/v22/toddfrech/xiu/

ok i was at the show in S.F.. i would have to say it was pretty good. the only thing i cant really stant are the stupid indie people! i know i ant anyone to judge but. "take a shower" and stop talking during the show. and i hate that chick that jamie refered to as bushs daughter. she should shut up shut up. i also didnt like how people would come walking threw the croud like mad men. and also the dead science guy kinda came forcefully my way trying to get to the other side. its cool thow i staired him down.. but i dont think he noticed . i like the new songs. i liked the sound t. i also was very anoyed with the people that were there. so once i got stoned and had a few drinks it took it out on people on the freeway. so if u were on 880 and i have a jetta sorry it was xiu xiu rage. and besides that. make xiu xiu more exclusive and more intiment. casue going to xiu xiu shows are starting to get reall dumb
beside my laundry list of complaints
mmmmmmmm i love ice fuckerTEXT

yeah, i was there and was sickened by everyone around. they completely ruined the atmosphere. the guy that kept requesting 'fast car' was a dick.

yeah and how about the asshole who threw ice... and how about the girls that like stepped right in front of me and smelled bad and blocked my view of the band and how about the people that were pushing their way to the front... yeah i also noticed a lot of high school kids and maybe i'm wrong but it seems as if perhaps xiu xiu is gaining more popularity, which is good for them, but bad for those wanting an intimate session.

The Echo show felt cut short but it was good nonetheless. I'm excited about the new songs. They had a poppy feel even moreso than Fabulous Muscles. All the chatter during the quiet songs was of course unfortunate.

the setlist from last night at the echo: 1-fabulous muscles (jamie acoustic guitar, duet on vocals, although caralee was really quiet) 2-pox (new) 3- bog people 4- don diasco 5-ale 6-muppet face (new) 7- mousy toy (new) 8-bunny gamer 9-hives hives (ACK!) 10-i luv the valley 11- sad redux-o-grapher no encore the door's "opening at 6:30 pm" fiasco was annoying as fuck... the second time i've been to the echo, and that's the second time we were let in almost two hours late... i recommend avoiding this venue if possible (yes, i'll be there for one deerhoof show next month, but i'll bitch about it) as for the show itself ale was so gorgeous that my friend, who hasn't heard much xiu xiu, was in tears half way through. she's been converted hives hives... first of all, it was incredible.. i was giddy with excitement... jamie told me on the last tour that he didn't think they could work out a good enough arrangement of it, since the percussion is so amazing on the album, and they can't steal him from deerhoof... but i was very happy with their decision to try... what made it even more memorable is that their new arrangement sounds almost country... i joked with caralee about it, and she agreed with me.. intriguing how much this song has changed since the first ibopa recording oh, and i had to purchase the shirt with the witch and the baby... i'm not sure if she's got him on a leash, or if she's stabbing him with her giant fingernails, but they're both good... also picked up the new _a_promise_ lp (third edition)... the new graphics are cool, from the same artist who did the fag patrol and fabulous muscles lp artwork, although i still like the first edition the most it was a good night, and this song is a mess but so am i started the evening out beautifully (despite some initial tech difficulties... again, damn echo). finally, i got a soundboard recording... it's gonna take a bit of time to fix the tracklisting.. the soundguy's board seperated a couple songs mid song into new tracks because they got so quiet, but wolfpac said he could fix it... i brought my mp3 recorder, which would have done it all in one track, but the soundboard op wouldn't let me, and only gave me the option to buy a cd from him after the show for $5 (third echo bitch.. done) sorry about the long post

I just came back from the La Jolla show at the Che Cafe, and all I have to say is wow! It took a while for us to get to see Xiu Xiu (long lines getting into the venue, long sound checks, and two supporting acts). Of the recent stuff, Crank Heart and Bunny Gamer were by far the best performed songs. The newer songs have a good danceability to them, which is a big plus imo. All in all the performance was top notch, and if I'm not too tired I may go see them on the 6th in Clairemont.

yes, the version of H.I.V.E.S. that I heard in San Francisco was very very beautiful. Jamie was on mandolin and Caralee on "harp" or whatever. At first, I thought it was a new song. . . . then he started in with the lyrics. . unbelievable.
i think people in the crowd were wasted. but the slow songs were heart-grabbing. you could even hear pool balls hitting in the back room and jamie's tears of sweat dropping on stage. I go back and forth because i love xiu xiu's high energy material as well. but i think it's the slow songs that really make xiu xiu a gut-checking avant garde collective. i saw these guys in the crowd playing drums on eachother's backs. it was really cute. i remember earlier in the msg. board days, someone had choreographed an interpretive dance to h.i.v.e.s. we should create some crazy dramatic sign language line dances to act out at xiu xiu shows. or once they start playing, everyone fall to the ground in full lotus position. he haeh.
