saw them in chicago last night. i cant remembber the whole setlist. all i remember for sure is they opened with a mandolin and harpsichord version of "hives hives", then they did bunny gamer i think, the best part was the encore which was "i broke up" then "suha". i was so excited i almost exploded. the new songs sounded awesome. i drove up from st louis to see this show and it was certainly worth the trip. they played almost half of knife play which was really cool (from what i remember, hives hives, don diasco, i broke up, suha). only song i remember them playing from A Promise was 'sad redux-o-grapher', and then bunny gamer, i luv the valley and fabulous muscles (not the same version as i remember from the last tour, which had the synth in it, but rather a version featuring caralee singing along with jamie through the first verse) from fabulous muscles, and a handful of new songs. if only the iowa city show was not 19+, or it was a month from now when i would be able to go, i would be reporting on that show as well, but alas, once will suffice until they're here over the summer

I couldn't get into the Chicago show because my friend is not 18... Though I did see Jamie walk through the front door... It was a bittersweet drive home BOTTOM LOUNGE BLOWS

I just got back from the Iowa City show. I thought they performed really well. It kind of sucked that during the quiet songs, there were a ton of drunk people in the back making a ton of noise. The setlist was similar to what it has been at the other shows.
I should actually be getting a most likely posting video from the show in the next week or two.

I saw them in Iowa City. The Dead Science sucked big time. I thought they were incredibly fake. I'm so sick of bands that are afraid to talk about their real lives so they make shit up. They talk about how sad they are, or how they can't get girlfriends. You can tell by the clothes they wear that these people are well off financially, and have never had to have a real job let alone, experience hardship.
Nonetheless, Xiu Xiu played well. Other people on this thread wrote that they played Suha, I Broke Up, and J-Lo. They didn't play any of these in Iowa City. I get the feeling that maybe Xiu Xiu doesn't like playing in Iowa City. They took the stage at around midnight, so I don't blame them for not playing for over an hour.

Don't get me wrong, they were still wonderful, and well worth the $8 dollar hand-job I gave to an uncircumsized guy to get into the show.

I meant $8, not $8 dollar.

I'm so sick of people that talk shit on bands they know nothing about. Especially about the personal lives of the people in said band.

Im going to have to agree with SnakeSkinJacket about the Dead Science. They were really not very good. In Iowa City a band called Racoooooon played before the Dead Science, and they were so much better. The Dead Science just seemed to try way too hard to be "sad kids who had bad lives." Also, the drummer was ridiculous. He kept losing his sticks and I have to say I've seen better drummers than that in middle school marching bands. I would have liked them better if they had no lyrics, just music, because the lyrics did not work at all. Sorry to anyone who likes them, it is just my opinion.

I thought the dead science was great, and since I am a drummer myself, I can say that their drummer was amazing. He played alot of off- time stuff on the first song which isn't something thats easy to do and make sound well. I bought their CD (Bird Bones in the Bug House) and it's very unique. Seems to me that people are calling them fakes and sad emo kids because of the way they dress. Try to name another band that sounds anything like The Dead Science. The other opening band (The Home Recording Project) was also pretty good. The singer was a bit shit faced, but it was still nice to see a band that isn't afraid to take the stage and play with a whole lot of energy just to please people. As far as Xiu Xiu, it was my first show. I don't even want to begin describing how good it was.

I don't know if anyone else noticed from the Chicago show, but they were giving out a free EP by the first opening band, The Home Recording Project. I picked it up, and the last song actually features Jamie singing!
Yup.

um...why do lyrics have to be confessional to be good? there is such a thing as a fictional narrative. do you only read nonfiction? do you only see documentaries? and does someone have to have experienced hardship to appreicate a song about hardship? does someone have to be a vegetarian to understand morrissey's lyrics?
unless you're talking about between-song banter, and not lyrics...in which case that is something different and unnecessary. in fact, between song banter is lame and should be kept to a minimum at all times.
but if you were talking about lyrics, then you need to offer a better reason for why these dead science people sucked, because the reason you give is pretty lame.
also, just so you people know--xiu xiu approves / requests / usually likes most of the bands that open for them. so when you don't like these opening bands and you talk shit about them, you're kinda saying "jamie, your taste in music sucks." which since quite a few of you are pretty hardcore fans you might not want to be doing.

just saw them out here in seattle. just jamie and caralee. pretty fucking good. played a version of hives hives i dont remember hearing. had a harpsichord and stuff. a lot mellower. next was the best song they played, i think. lots of "OOMF!" and lyrics that went somthing like "why ask when theres no reason.." somthing like that... also played bunny gamer. they both sang on fabulous muscles. played crank heart.. and a few others. oh yeah. they played that shut up shut up one. the one where he says he wants to hear the pin break and the needle scratch. "is that your glass heart clinking?" the one where he mentions the game cube and the tender buttons. yadda yadda. anyway. it was good. he also sang some fucked up happy birthday song to their tour manager or somthing.
