I think he knows that bootlegs will happen, and he doesn't always agree with them... i dunno. I have like 2 days worth of live boots from Owen's sets. I don't think he will descend from the heavens (read: toronto) and say NO! but he might frown upon it. I didn't get any stops from my boot of the edmonton show a few months back...? See, that's the thing. Part of this may come from my being such a long-time member of the Mountain Goats fan community on knowing John's fairly open and permissive stance on live tape sharing, but I think that especially when you have a performer as open, accessible, and generous as Owen obviously is, it is all the more important to recognize and respect the limits that they would like to have placed on the distribution of their work, including live performances. If Owen frowned upon it, the way I see it, distributing this tape that he would rather not see out there on a forum that he has provided for us in which to discuss things just seems n incredibly disrespectful and entitled thing to do. Does that make any sense? Yes, he probably knows people are going to tape shows, but if he'd rather not see those shows distributed (albeit among the fan community and absolutely free of any kind of transaction) to people who were not there to experience it, especially before the album from which most of the songs are taken has come out, I'd rather respect that. Otherwise, it's kind of like going into the house of an acquaintance, taking photographs out of the acquaintance's photo album without asking, and then giving those photographs to a newspaper for publication. Just because you were invited to look at these photographs, it doesn't give you the right to take them (or copies of them, for that matter) and do as you like with them. Hope I'm not coming off as preachy or didactic. Just wanted to make sure everyone understood why I am taking the stance that I am. In any case, Owen, if you should happen to read this at all, would you mind shedding some light on your policy or wishes? [/tl;dr]

I think the only time he was clearly vocal about it was when he was live @ BAM, because it was a unique event. But that's the only time I remember him being vocal about it. I'm not sure for others times. Oh and welcome to these fine forums! =D

Compared to the August 8th Vienna bootleg, Owen's work at the Wilbur in Boston was excellent: much more together and precise, as well as...I don't know, definitely less shy. He was grooovin', in the somewhat timid and slightly assertive way that he can do. If he would give the blessing, that would be an amazing recording to have.
I'm still left to wonder what he's doing now that the tour's done...resting his finger, sleeping, and doing production stuff for Heartland I guess. The website went under a huge revamp, so maybe he's all over the place talking to Domino. I just wish he'd visit more often!

Nah, he should keep his mouth shut for a bit. I'm tired of him yapping on about all his silly problems. He's probably very busy with important album stuff anyway.

maybe we should just take him by his beak ( ) and break his jaw, so he can never speak or sing again?

some of you may know of the infamous nyc taper. Well, he recorded the bootlegs for the Webster Hall and (amazing piano) Bell House shows. He isn't going to release them unless he gets the go from Owen. Here is his message from the Mountain Goats forums:
nyctaper December 11, 2009 07:54PM | Re: Owen Pallett, Final Fantasy, and his setlists. Yes, I need specific approval, not some hope that he won't mind. I did send an email to his webmaster, but if anyone has any better contact information, I'll give it another shot.
I really hope someone here knows how to contact Owen, or someone else higher up, who could give the OKAY for this. I'd really like to hear them!

You could try private messaging him? it might take a while cause he's usually busy doing stuff but I'm sure he'd be nice enough to respond.
