From the get-go they seemed a little phony. 8 bit will always have a place in my heart though. I like on stillepost when people were rating indieness using crystal castles. So this thread would get probably 8.5 crystal castles out of 10... I'm rather tempted to go to their gig and hold up a giant sign reading: "PHONIES". but that's just overly rude. this isn't a laromlab. a grand majority of their work is fully, wholly, and inarguably legitimate. i hate defending them all over the place because as an artist i would never get myself in the situation they have gotten themselves into. but right now you can count on two hands their defenders and only god knows how many are against 'em. hate them as much as you want, but ruining other fans' show experiences is an unnecessary step.

So to stray off topic just for a little bit, but i feel like i need to post this somewhere:
Basia Bulat is playing in my local Gallery of Modern Art for an exhibition of Picasso's collection of art! In Brisbane, Queensland, Australia!! I hadn't actually listened to any of her music before tonight, but when i was browsing for any remotely interesting concerts on last.fm (as i do every day to make sure i don't miss any more concerts since this year i've missed out on Modest Mouse, Jens Lekman, Beirut and Andrew Bird due to being underage or just didn't hear about it til after the damn thing was over) I saw Miss Bulat's event posted and noted that it was at one of my favourite places in the city and also remembered that i'd seen her name mentioned in these forums. So. Now i have some new music to listen to and a combination of live music and wonderful art to look forward to. Yay!!
I'm a little excited, i've been desperate to go see some live music the entire year.
Yep.
*ends completely irrelevant ramble* So what's all this about stealing..

sorry.
i do have fun, it's just that there are a good number of people ACTUALLY planning on doing this, which will surely ruin that show for everyone else.
it's like a rock concert and PETA protest ALL IN ONE!
yeah let's change topics, eh?
i didn't intend for this to become an angry thread.
all apologies.

*cough* forgive me for beating the dead horse but wtf??!! cc's new album is chock full of love & rip-offs?? well shit. why yes, yes i must have been living in a cave not to have heard about this before now (and for 'cave' please read 'stuffy-yet-cozy-apartment-of-darkness). to be honest, i really LOVE the crystal castles and although normally i'd be registering Shock! & Disappointment! at blatant ripoffery, i seem to have momentarily misplaced my Moral Outrage!!!. i'm being such a hypocrite cause i really do hate that kinda shit but i just wanna forgive'em, k? i really hope there won't be any losers booing them or something equally as lame at the show. and after all, it's not like every awesome band from the 60's/70's didn't completely steal material from all the old uncopywrited (is that a word? *shrugs*) bluesmen before them, right? ...and in other news... did you know that absinthe can lead to intense yet random philosophical discussions as well as howling at the moon? hmmm... interestin'. & why is it legal again now? they still have to use wormwood to make it, right? so shouldn't it still lead to an earlyish emerald-tinged insanity? ahh questions, questions, a plague of questions.

Mua ha ha, story of my life man I'm heading over to Paris this summer with some friends and it's now my mission to fall asleep in an alleyway due to tooooo much Absinthe philosophical debates and discussions are always fun, if you haven't already wreaked havoc on all your brain cells and can remember what you were discussing can you fire some questions my way? I need to brush up on my philosophy skillz because I'm going to be helping my lecturer out with her philosophy summer school thing and I really don't want to look as vacant as I did last year :/ all I really did was read the content and eat strawberries last year... and according to the joy that is wikipedia they still use wormwood, they have a pretty picture of a very pretty glass of absinthe so it MUST be true

D: My dear father has blocked access to youtube, and it ain't working with a proxy, either. Ahhhh! What the frigg? hurmm.. get onto myspace or some other equally detestable (a word I learned from Mrs Doubtfire through that charming angsty young lady Liddie or whatever her name was) and search up a band called "hello saferide". The chances of you hearing of them are large but they're just so dreamy and pleasant to listen to, I went on the bus today with a hop and a skip today because they are now in the secure region of my Ipod. Annnyywaayy, care to know the extent to how bloomin' scatty I am?

Guys I have a story that belongs in this thread!
So I have this website which is pretty much the bastard child of the webcomic and music-blog worlds. Several months ago, I blogged about a commercial featuring this very prominent oboist; a man I had drawn a comic about months previous to *that*. He googled himself, came upon my blog, emailed me, enjoyed the comic, and is now coming to do a masterclass for my studio!
My prof told me that all the oboists in my studio (including me!) were going to play for this guy (probably the best oboist in the world, ever--his recordings of freaking violin partitas are *ridiculous*), so naturally I was all apprehensive and scared mostly stockingless. I got an email this morning saying that is no longer true, and a couple of principals (Windsor and Saskatoon symphonies) as well as four oboists in a summer chamber music program at my school are going to play instead.
Relief. Also disappointment. This is a strange combination of feelings. I do not know how to feel!
Anyway. He is coming on June 2nd for masterclassy and recital-y things. It shall be epic.

Well, currently confused, since the last time I made a comic about a mean composer (Schumann, grr) the, uh, art was not great.
