Maybe I'm slow to not know who Abbi is, but I do think reviving Let's Talk Small would actually be really dope. The concentration of cool people in this small corner of the internet is high.

I can go first lol Is it TMI to ask what sort of work you do? No pressure to answer, but it's good to be happy with a job, especially these days. I'm in the middle of a gap year before grad school, which I fortuitously decided to take in early fall 2019 (pre-COVID). I had my first batch of sociology PhD applications due on the 1st. Another batch is due in about a week, then a few more in January, before it's turned over to the whims of fate and admissions committees. I'm also working on a comic- a personal project, starring my icon who was originally inspired by e is for estranged lol- and am a research associate in 3 sociology labs. Before it starts to sound remotely cool, though, I'll caveat that I spend the vast amount of time just balancing every little obligation, leaving me nearly no brain-space left to actually produce anything of substance. Well, I guess I have been proud of this.... my ability to draw my e is for estranged elf from when I created this account to now vastly outpaced my improvement in any of the sociological skills I'm paid to do. But don't tell the admissions committees.

Hey, less directly personal since no one bit, but this is still under the category of "small talk!" I'm a huge fan of Lil Nas X's new single. He mentioned that Frank Ocean inspires him, and that his 2017 single Provider was a "very special song to him" in particular. Owen conducted and arranged strings for Provider. I just thought this was neat. I'd embrace the Owen Pallett / Lil Nas X crossover any day of the week

Oh that's very cool! I would love something like that... It's endlessly fascinating to me when artists I like who are distinctly not making top 40 pop hits show up working on songs by huge pop musicians (like Dessner/McAlister working with Taylor Swift). For some reason I never rly saw an in on this thread even though you explicitly asked lol. I will introduce myself here: I am Kit, 27, from Massachusetts, and I work for my dad's company writing corporate blog posts and helping mostly colleges advertise online. I write short stories and little hybrid poetry things and take lots of photos. I'm chronically ill so I'm very lucky to have the job I do, which allows me to scrape by working minimal hours. I can't really travel atm but hopefully will be well enough by the time Owen (and everyone) is touring again!
