it took me three times to listen to it throughout to really appreciate it.
i think it's completely amazing. i know i like it a LOT better than fabulous muscles.. but other than that i really can't compare it to anything else xiu xiu has put out.

Right now, my only complaint is this:
Not enough stickbeats (because I love their stickbeats).

I couldn't even recognize the drums at the end of Mousey Toy on the record. In all the bootlegs i've heard and the two times I saw them on their most recent tour the drums sounded much different.

For me it was important to listen to this album on a good pair of headphones. If you find that you aren't liking the cd, I would suggest trying this. It is important to be able to discern every little sound/melody that is coming at you, because this album is sometimes so dense....

And by the way...
my reaction to the cd (which I bought, btw).
At first I didn't really like it because I just don't really like it when JS whispers. And his vocals are hidden in the mix, which made me even more frustrated in trying to like it. But after about 3 or 4 listens, I must say that I really like this cd. It is a really different cd, and I think that once people get past this, they will begin to appreciate the cd more for what it is.

I am liking the gamelan influence in some of the songs.
I think La Foret is Xiu Xiu's most classically composed record.
I am especially in love with the "gamelan-like" parts in Muppet Face, in the middle of the song, with what sounds like some sort of xylophone, and the breathtakingly beautiful orchestrations in Baby Captain which have made me smile and cry a few times already.
I love the choice of clarinets for Ale. It makes the song really stand out and is quite beautiful.
Bog People. What can I say other than that it is amazing? The lyrics are especially close to home with me.
Dangerous you shouldn't be here - I would say, one of the darker songs on the record. I'm guessing it's about the tsunami in Asia, so it's fitting that it be so emotional and crushing.
Overall, I think Jamie is getting closer to where he wants to be musically. He has mentioned in the past that if Xiu Xiu ceased to exist he would like to go a little more in the classical composition direction. And I hear those inclinations on La Foret.
I definately like it. <3

"rose of sharon" is a one i have been listening to on repeat since i heard the record. even though i had recorded versions of this song done live... the album version beats out all the rest. i really love it. just bought the album today.

Does anyone know if this album will be released on LP? I can't find the CD in stores around here, so I was thinking about buying it digitally on iTunes, but I would much rather have something I can hold. If it is coming out on LP, then I can breathe and finally listen to the album...
If not, well, I guess I'll have to wait for a shipment after ordering it. :\

I noticed a Thank You to Dr. Strangelove in the liner notes of the American version of La Foret. What is this about?
Forgive me if this has already been covered.
