It's a bit wordy, but it's a nice advert. I think they could have done a lot worse with it.
And I think that anyone who stopped being a fan because of a song being sold for a commercial is silly. Especially in a situation like this.
And thanks for the concern, Owen. You're a good man.

hmmmm, someoneelse. I thought of this too.... But surely its not worth the bother. I would have just said I sold this and make cash. Hope you don' t mind and that you can understand why I did it... Hmmm.. I think you thought that I thought that he did, but I didn't and neither do you so that ok and that it's all been done in the best possible taste. Blah blah blah sellout money music sellout blah blah blah.

According to amazon.co.uk, HAGH is currently selling more than HPC - possible impact of the ad? (current sales rank of HAGH: #902, and of HPC: #2493) It's not a sell-out, shut up Owen. Nice choice of Doctors Without Borders though. Seeing those figures reminded me that I should have mentioned by now that HPC is definitely the one I prefer now. It's seems to have more textures and depth that HAGH which whilst still being a masterpiece isn't quiet on the same level. I still can't fathom what he's on about mind you

Oh and we do agree about the sell out thing. I think that it has just crossed both our minds.

the first one has been out for a lot longer, and was a lot catchier. the second one is a lot more challenging, less accessible, much more of an album than a collection of pop songs. not to say it isn't catchy. but i know a lot of people who were turned off by it just because it wasn't like the first. i for one much prefer he poos clouds, but i'm kind of in the minority as far as people i've talked about it with. i don't think a lot of people realize owen's vibe. some of my friends were pretty shocked when i played them les mouches. eh.

I think the second one is more accessible, actually. the songs have much more conventional structures, with strong melodies throughout and more narrative-like lyrics. if anything, i think they're 'poppier' than the songs off HAGH.

I was playing 'He Poos Clouds' in school and the janitor was genuinely worried that I might be depressed when she came in and heard 'song song song' Don't know if that's the way it comes across for everyone, but it definitely got me wondering how 'If I Were a Carp' would score with Celine Dion-fans.

pieter - why would song song song signify depression? your school janitor is strange. unless i'm missing something.

Yeah, my point exactly...even THAT song sounds 'depressing' to some people...so I wouldn't expect Owen on Top of the Pops any time soon...

Well as far as Australia is concerned, He Poos Clouds is released over here and as far as I can see Has a Good Home isn't. HPC is getting plenty of press; I've seen ads in the street press, and have been able to get the CD, LP and Many Lives EP all just off the shelf where everything to do with HAGH I have had to get imported.
So basically as far as most of Australia is concerned, there is only one album.

Well, I wouldn't say that all music given for commercial use is excuseable.
Look at Pete Townshend. I can't think of a single great Who song that hasn't been used for some purpose on TV already (In the US, anyway).
Of course, that's an extreme case, I think.

Just while you're at it: Amazon.com (US) HAGH- 30,827 HPC- 3,317 I'm curious to know how one finds figures like these, which I am guessing might be sales figures on Amazon.com? ?? Could you advise me on how to track down such info?
