Honestly and personally, i'm quite relivied to have a decent song playing on an advert- for once . The naysayers will always moan, Owen, but then think of the popularity ratings Funny thing that, I turned on the television to watch a program or two to kill some time, when my family burst into a full blown arguement over something trivial, over which i was dragged into as usual- but then what's this i hear out the very corners of my ear....? "Hey yo yo yo yo yo I need an empire to overthrow" I stopped dead and turned to the tv. Then i shouted at the top of my voice for everyone to SHUT. UP.! and we all just sat there listening to the advert..... the storm that had brewed then dissipated with those seconds of song. Now all my family are asking who sang that 'sweet jingle off the telly'. I might just tell them, but then i thought i'll want to save it for the next heated row, to cool them off. So all i want to say is; Thanks Owen. Sometimes, just sometimes, a mistake can lead to better things sebxx

My biggest concern is that, in order to see this advert, I'm going to have to watch Big Brother. I don't mind that it's for Orange - my phone is on Orange.
The Future's Bright...The Future's Owenge.

i find the whole buying and selling of independant music to big companies as bizarre (most of the time.)
for example, when ratatat sold "seventeen years" to hummer for an H3 commercial for $30,000. it just weirds me out. unless i needed bail from jail, i would never.
owen, im glad you have restraint and integrity when it comes to such matters.

on the plus side... now you have $$ for a down payment for cottage in the woods?
...or you could sue orange and buy a mansion! and be a hero for indie integrity! King of the pretentious! sweet. oh man, then i'll have to find a new phone service provider

I find this all very amusing in a nice way, but I'd like to know how Orange discovered you in the first place. Was it a closet fan on the inside or some more natural process? oh... and can we expect corporate hospitallity at the UK gigs in October?

I swear, I've never been so startled while waching terrestrial television. It was like some strange and pleasant and slightly alarming dream sequence.
And I think it's quite rotten that it's happened if you didn't actually want it to. But hope you can perhapsss take some comfort in the fact that Orange make quite nice adverts, as far as adverts go. A few months ago, they had one where people roamed around in the dark to the sweet sounds of Newsom. And more recently, one with a magic bicycle and some string-ish music that made me feel all funny inside.
And they've used it nicely, you know. It sounds extra lovely.

I just saw a trailer for a film with "Boys of Melody" as the soundtrack, but I don't remember the title of the movie. I was too busy tweaking about the fact that "Boys of Melody" was coming from the big screen. Just...thought I'd throw that out there.

I completely agree I really loved the magic bicycle one too

And that's to say nothing of the Kevin Spacey cinema adverts ( putting the 'Ding' back in 'Funding'). It's a shame this happened against your wishes, but the advert works well and the company aren't notably evil and it spreads your music unto the masses and basically I am in favour of this particular instance of rampant commercialism.

Yeah, the way I see it, selling your songs to be used in advertisements is beneficial to you in more than just financial terms. You'll also get a lot of new fans that way. And that's a good thing, isn't it? You may lose a lot of more dedicated fans.

How dedicated can a fan really be if they're going to stop listening to someone just because their song in on a commercial? You'd maybe lose some snobby elitist fans, not dedicated ones. And if they're really that judgemental, they probably wouldn't be all that missed. I mean, none of us are going to stop loving FF just because it's on a commercial now, right?

I agree. That'd be just plain stupid.
A question: After all this talk about this ad I would like to see it. To know what I'm actually talking about, you know. Can I find it somewhere on the mighty internet? Orange's not at all known in Germany.
Ta.
