here's the setlist from sopot, poland (not sure about the order though): man with no ankles scandal at the parkade arctic circle this is the dream of win & regine midnight directives keep the dog quiet mount alpentine lewis takes action e is for estranged many lives the great elsewhere this lamb sells condos odessa flare gun oh heartland up yours lewis takes off his shirt i was a bit embarrassed by the poor attendance, i guess it had something to do with the date (saturday before easter). the show had to be moved to a much smaller venue and i suppose that's why we didn't get to see the band. but owen solo was great as usual, so no complaints! i absolutely loved it and the fact that i summoned the courage to say hi to owen makes it pretty much a perfect memory. i found some decent videos of owen on that tiny stage: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-xAyjlR-40www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CyilUH3Yww

I remember seeing Grizzly Bear play to 26 people one night and then packed out a couple of nights later. You do feel embarrassed a bit, but hell we still managed a drunken stage invasion and a sing-a-long. It really just one of those things that can happen and as you say was saturday before easter.

SO excited about the Barbican on Sunday ;D I've been waiting so long to see Owen live!!! He will not disappoint us, based on my past experience. Although backed by full orchestra will be weird as aside from the recent gigs with Thomas it's always been Owen+pedals only! Also looking forward to seeing the Reich premiere and Max Richter (another favourite). Should be a fantastic night!!!

It's the Barbican show tonight, I can't wait! Turns out that sat right on the top tier, and it turns out that up until a few weeks ago (and maybe even now) I could've got a ticket on the front row for only five Pounds more. That sucks.#
But I'm sure it'll still be brilliant!

Owen was in fine voice at the barbican. For me the mixing left a bit to be desired - the drums seemed too loud and drowned out the orchestra at times, and I think Owen was having trouble with his monitor. Storming version of Tryst, and TGE was amazing as always. Perhaps the moment where band and orchestra worked best together was on the closing WDYTWHN. And pleased to see that even with orchestra pedals and loops were still being used (especially appropriate for a Reich themed night).
The barbican always attempt to bite off more than they can chew with these kinds of weekends and they were overrunning horribly so unfortunately I had to leave before Max Richter which was annoying. Still, when I left I did see Owen in the foyer and stopped to shake his hand and say something goofy like "Good set" (sorry, but what are you *supposed* to say?) so that was some consolation.
This was my fifth or sixth time seeing Owen live and as ever he didn't disappoint, but I actually prefer Heartland played the way I first heard those songs (I think it was in Cardiff): one man, some keys, a violin and some pedals!

You read my mind! I was afraid to put anything on here because I thought I might get my head bitten off, but I totally agree - It seemed that the drums were too loud - On songs like Tryst they made perfect sense and fitted in really well, but on some of the more delicate songs the cymbals just seemed to drown out the strings which I thought was a shame. This could've just been down to my position (up in the gods) or maybe more likely a mixing issue, I don't understand all of this technical nonsense too well! I hope that this isn't a sign of things to come.
Regardless, it was still a great set, and it made a really nice change to see the whole album from start to finish. Tryst was brilliant, was really great to hear that as it is on the record, as well as Flare Gun. The Great Elsewhere was brilliant, as ever, but even more remarkable with the weight of an orchestra behind it (particularly the outro) and both Lewis tracks were particularly good as I recall!
Thanks Owen & Co., come back soon!

Hey flaregun, I was in the stalls so I don't think it was being up in the gods that was the problem...there was a guy in front of me with his fingers in his ears! And yeah the drums on Tryst were excellent weren't they? I had no problem with his playing, just his volume. See you at the next gig.....the Union Chapel ones are always especially good :-)

See you at the next gig.....the Union Chapel ones are always especially good :-) Hullo! Is there a Union Chapel gig coming up? I can't find it if there is. I was gutted to miss the Barbican gig but with Sufjan Stevens and Bjork tickets purchased recently, and having seen Owen twice last year... I just had to resist.

No Union Chapel gig scheduled that I know of....I'm just hoping for one later in the year.
Sufjan should be a good gig. I know Bjork is a legend and all but I just can't get that excited. Now Sigur Ros, they're good!

Now Sigur Ros, they're good! Ah OK! Yes, I far preferred the Union Chapel gig to the Koko gig last year. Not least of all because of Nico Muhly, Sam Amidon, and Beth Orton being there..! But the sound quality was so good. Koko was just a bit brutal and samey by comparison. I've been fortunate to see Sigur Ros, Mum, and Bjork, and of the three Sigur Ros were my least favourite live. I think if I'd been laying down in a field at a festival it would've been much better, but in grotty Brixton Academy you couldn't really get lost in their magic. To me, they're more of a band to listen to alone. Conversely, if I had to pick a favourite ever gig... Bjork would be a strong contender. She's a complete genius, and puts on an amazing show. Anyway, this is off-topic! But yeah, cannot wait to finally see Sufjan live...! I'm going this Saturday x

The Barbican show was AMAZING. I agree with what everyone has already said about the drums being too loud at certain points, but other than that it was just perfect. Owen's vocals were particularly impressive, I'm so glad I got to experience it.
