Has anyone else already gotten their single in the mail yet? Mine arrived today, but I thought they were supposed to arrive on the 22nd I AM CONFUSED. Pre-order are often sent out a bit early than release day based on expected postal service performance and as a reward. Just pays to please.

As it turns out my copy is messed up, and in order to get it exchanged for a new one I need to "include a note with [my] order number and an explanation the problem" to the people at 11spot.com. Here is my note:
Dearest 11spot.com Customer Service Representative,
My name is Devin and I am writing to inform you of a defective item that was shipped to my home on June 15th, 2010, and also to express my desire to replace said defective item with one of proper working order. The item in question is the 12 inch “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt” vinyl EP by none other than the compositional genius Owen Pallett. My order number is 9000020600, for your reference.
It should perhaps be noted that this EP is a pre-order item that is meant to be released on June 22nd, 2010. I was informed upon placing my order for the EP through Domino Records’ website that the item would be shipped in such timely fashion as to arrive on the date of its official release. So, imagine the sheer delight that twinkled from my eye and emanated from my bosom upon discovering a package from your company sitting on my doorstep, a whole week before its expected arrival! I was positively tickled! I immediately—though carefully—set the record onto my turntable and settled cross-legged on my bedroom floor, eager to enjoy my evening of melodic remixes. Now imagine, if you will, my confused disappointment as my ears were greeted not with the cheery and enthusiastic synthesizers and flutter of flutes that I was anticipating, but rather the mangled, off-tempo and off-key strains of what could only be a grossly bastardized attempt at a musical homage to Mr. Pallett performed by a colony of zygotes. In essence, the sound quality of this record is shit. I believe the disc to be warped, hence the distortion in tempo and pitch I was detecting.
If it appears reasonable to you to exchange my malformed 12 inch “Lewis Takes Off His Shirt” vinyl EP by the celestial Owen Pallett for one of a superior caliber, I would be most grateful. Thank you eternally for your time and effort dedicated to my cause.
Sensually yours, Devin
Do you guys think that sounds ok

I think, as a former Customer Service Representative, it sounds delightful and you are going to make someone's, if not many someones', day.

Devin, I really don't have anything to say besides that I thought this was coming out in July and that you were really lucky to get even a fucked-up copy so early... Do you guys think that sounds ok? ...and that we are a wonderfully wordy bunch.

It may just be me but I find doing remixes of Owens songs similar to doing orchestral versions of club hits. It just clashes.
Obviously the Simon Bookish remix is amazing but as soon as KTDQ hit the scene we all thought/knew "Club Banger!!!"

Could you also try out some other records on your record player to ensure that there is, in fact, a problem with the record? And everybody else: please report if you have any similar problems. I'm only asking because I haven't heard a test pressing of this 12"----the very first time I've allowed a piece of vinyl to be released without hearing the test pressing-----I've been on tour and don't travel with a gramophone----though that would be nice, wouldn't it!

First of all, let me just express how embarrassed I am that you read that letter I sent, Owen. Second, I listened to two of my other records that play at 33rpm and they sound normal. I do think my copy was just damaged during shipping, especially since Jules said his arrived just fine. I examined the vinyl again and it indeed looks warped. I recorded a short sample of how the album version of LTOHS sounds if anyone would care to take a listen: www.upload-mp3.com/files/205093_kauju/lewis%20takes%20off%20his%20shirt%20vinyl%20exce.mp3]lewis takes off his shirt vinyl exce.mp3 It just kind of dips in and out of pitch. 11spot emailed me back though and said they are sending me a new copy. If I have problems with the second one I will be sure to report it. I would also like to take this opportunity to request a cover of "We Don't Want Your Body" off Stars' new album, please and thank you, you are the best.

The MP3 you posted. It sounds distorted. Is this just the gain structure of your recording or is the distortion on the track?
As for the warped sound, it sounds more like your record has a hole that is off-center. Watch the edge of the record as it plays... does it seem to be coasting in and out? Like you're listening to a record that is in fact oblong?

The mp3 is distorted because I had the gain up too high, my bad. The hole looks centered, I don't think the record is oblong. I took a video of it playing so you can see how it looks like the edge is kind of bent: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yFHhS9qOvs

Devin, sorry that this is tangential to your issues (which I'm glad are getting resolved...), but your record player is from Urban Outfitters, isn't it? Do you like it? Is the sound quality okay? (It sounds pretty great in the video...) I've been looking at something portable, and I'm really a fan of the speaker output options on this model. (It just plugs into a headphone/computer speaker jack, right?) I'm not as concerned with the USB options, but if you'd like to speak to them, I'd be happy to hear your opinion.
So, what do you think and, if I'm wrong about the UrbOut, where did you get yours?

It is indeed from Urban Outfitters, I was inclined to get it there rather than anywhere more legitimate because I work at UO and get a discount, haha. As far as I know the Ion isn't carried in stores anymore (at least not in our district), and it's no longer available on the website. I did some searching just now though and found several for sale on ebay, some as low as $85: shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=ion+portable+turntable&_sacat=See-All-CategoriesI'm actually quite pleased with it as a whole. I don't use the built in speaker much, as I mostly use the headphone jack, but I've hooked it up to a surround sound speaker system before and it sounded great. I also like that you can control the tone and gain, and even though you said you weren't terribly interested in the USB options, I find it very exciting to be able to rip tracks from my vinyl. Another bonus would be that you can basically play any size vinyl on it as it includes a little adapter disc. My biggest criticism though would probably be that the recording software is too basic, and requires you to use an additional audio program like Audacity to clean up your ripped tracks. I hope this answer was long winded enough for you!
