"Heartland features enough great songs to forgive a little continuity glitches.".... It's not a film or a book...IT'S AN ALBUM!!!!!. In fact Disney is actually written in the ancient 14th century style of D'Isney or D'Eisney, and originally De Isigney, from Isigney, a small village near Bayeaux, in Normandy. Okay I made the 14th century thing up, but it just shows that if you have a broad mind, you can make any "glitch" go away This made me laugh The Disney reference has always baffled me a bit. But it doesn't actually say anywhere that the album isn't set in modern times (unless I've missed something). They could have Disney in Heartland, I guess.. It just sounds weird, because I still mistakenly think of it being from the same time as the Spectrum, 14th Century EP, even after Owen has said that it's not.

It is in the 14th century! Just like ketamine and a whole slew of other mathematical and linguistic baggage, Lewis is transcending his setting, his time and place. Disney Kid is a reference to a quaint story with some trauma which is eventually resolved and everything is perfect. Lewis must be the spunky kid in cutoffs in a beater who, despite his maladjustments to society, eventually comes around and finds his place in the universe.
Instead, he kills god.

Love it I completely agree.

I've mentioned Owen in a post I've just published on my blog so I thought I'd mention it here (and I've used a little bit of that interview he did with Studio 360): thehousebuilt.wordpress.com/2010/01/31/failure/comments would be appreciated!

Q Magazine had a stupid review in it this month..something about no songs that stood out from the rest meaning that it wasn't ineffective...Perhaps its because every track is good whereas on other albums the good stands out from the less good. Said he was better as a team player.

Nevertheless, I look forward to the inevitable totally contradictory write-up in their end-of-year reviews.
EDIT: Take a bonus shot if it's written by exactly the same writer.

I'm not even sure it Mojo or Uncut have done a review, or did I miss it by locking myself away in another dimension over the last month or so? If they did I presume it was all great positive stuff.

Hmm, more of an interview than a review. Is it okay if I put this here? Owen Pallett, Final Flight of FantasyThat picture is just...oh so great. "It might seem like I did nothing for, like, four years," Pallett admits. "I made the mistake of going to the message boards yesterday and it was like, 'Heartland coming out!' and someone was like, 'Two years too late!' I'm like, 'You fuckin' loser. I've been so busy!'" Pallett laughs again, but the stress in his voice is evident. He has been busy...(A.Warner) aww, sorry if any of us ever piss you off Owen. I think most of us will agree four years is a ridiculously short amount of time considering the results.

Here's hoping it's not another four years before the next one; nearly all of the people I got into Owen mainly lost interest somewhere during that time period.

From the picture you'd think it was Mr Gill "Pallett admits he's already mentally moved on to the next album", so only another two years too wait

Not to pick holes or anything, but -
Seems to me a bit odd to bunch Land of Talk in with those other two bands in terms of international acclaim. Outside of Canada, I don't know how many of their listeners actually know they're Canadian, it's not like they go on stage swaddled in maple leaves or throwing violins at each other or anything.
I love Land of Talk to bits, but they worked for every single body in their audience. Kanye West's blog notwithstanding, they've gotten to the point they have thanks to quite a bit of hard graft and some very fervent word of mouth, it's not like they just got an in with BSS and coasted on it. I don't know if their Canadian-ness did them any huge favours beyond ensuring that they get to answer questions about Arcade Fire in every damn interview too.
I guess that's probably not how that was intended though; they just struck me as one of those things that's not like the others in that list.
