That's the metal festival, right? I wonder what the crowd was like.

I've just been listening to the Next Life cd that my daughter got and it's really amazing. It's a bit lighter than the live set, but it has incredible depth and clarity.

Hey everybody, I just returned from the Berlin show. There's no one word to describe the show, it was overwhelming and fabulous and much more! It was my second time seeing Owen (first time was last year in Dublin) but my first time seeing him with Thomas (or "Pocketdragon" which Owen said is his nickname now ) They are just incredible together, I've never heard "Keep The Dog Quiet" or "Lewis Takes Off His Shirt" so powerfull, especially KtDQ which came rolling like a thunderstorm with raunchy guitar and strobo light. I'm very thankful that he played "Skandal at the Parkade" and "That's When The Audience Died", just wonderful! The whole setlist was as follows: E Is For Estranged This Is The Dream Of Win And Regine Skandal At The Parkade That's When The Audience Died Midnight Directives Keep The Dog Quiet / Mount Alpentine The Great Elsewhere Lewis Takes Action He Poos Clouds Independence Is No Solution Flare Gun Many Lives 49 MP Lewis Takes Off His Shirt encore: Sweet Fantasy Owen's set was only about an hour long, which was a little bit of a shame, because Mono were playing after him. It was a REALLY huge contrast to Owen's more fragile sound and I couldn't attend the whole set because my ears just hurt so much from the really brutal noise they were creating. I mean they are definetely really skilled musicians. But I don't know who scheduled this "shared" concert, for me it didn't really seem to fit. The funny thing was that before Owen started his set, somebody asked me what his music was like because he had never heard of him and he basically came to see Mono, for me kind of the opposite was true (although I already heard some of their music) and just by they way some people were dressed you could tell if they came to see Owen or Mono Sadly I don't have any pictures this time because my camera just broke

So as it turned out, I actually got to see Owen again - for the fourth time now. In Malmö. Since I really rarely visit Copenhagen it definitely seemed like a good excuse - also, it was during the easter holiday (no days off school needed) and everything is supposed to be so nice and cheap in Sweden. So I arranged it with a friend and we got to combine a few lovely days in Malmö, Copenhagen and beyond with Owen's gig at Babel. My friend borrowed He Poos Clouds from me once but otherwise didn't really know lots about Owen - but since we share a lot taste-wise it wasn't difficult to convince him to come with me. As always (something I'm beginning to love saying) it was really, really great. It was my first time seeing Owen in a non-seated venue which somehow made it seem less formal and elevated. But it was a small venue and the atmosphere was quite nice and cosy so I didn't complain. A thing I've noticed about Owen's gigs is that he has the best support bands. Cibelle was brilliantly silly, colourful, wonderful and awesome all at once. With me and my friend being the only people actually right at the front of the stage during her set we seemingly caught her attention a little bit more than the rest of the crowd... after the gig we met her when she was selling CDs and I somehow made it through my usual shyness and lack of knowing what to say when I meet cool people who have just performed a fantastic gig right in front of my eyes. I told her I thought she was cool and she hugged me, which was quite strange and nice. Then my friend and I collected our last Swedish cash and spent them on her CD. On our way out we saw Owen talking to some people and he passed right by us. I didn't really have the guts to say anything by then except some mumbling so we didn't stop him... maybe next time. Owen's set is probably what is the most difficult to describe for me. My friend told me afterwards that he had gotten hooked by the time Owen yelled "AWAY!" in This is the Dream Of Win & Regine, the second song he played, and that song certainly was magical. After that he played Scandal At The Parkade and (this sounds really tacky) I felt like everything turned light and happy and I couldn't stop smiling. As soon as Thomas entered the stage everything got even better - Owen said they'd forgotten some important equipment for the drum kit in Oslo, meaning that they now needed a volunteer to hold the particular part of the kit (I don't know the specific name) while Thomas played it. So they had a Swedish girl, apparently cheered on by her friends, come on stage and hold it during Midnight Directives. Other highlights included a long conversation between Owen and the crowd about whether Canada was a good place to live, some different requests (resulting in Owen playing Peach Plum Pear as half of the encore), the bow falling on the floor making for horse hair everywhere and at last Owen telling that it was his boyfriend's, aka "the prettiest boy in the room", birthday and if we saw him - we should tell him that Owen said hi. All in all, it was wonderful. Every time I go to Owen's shows I realize how important it is to witness his music live. It becomes that much more powerful, intense and oh-so-very-beautiful. I would love to see him in a mighty church again but I'm glad to know that he can turn normal venues into magical places also. After the gig my friend said "I've never been in love with a man but I think it might just have happened..." - which I think sums up his and my own (even though I am a girl) thoughts about the gig quite well.

Also, I think the setlist looks a lot like the Berlin one, except with a different encore:
E Is For Estranged This Is The Dream Of Win And Regine Skandal At The Parkade That's When The Audience Died Midnight Directives Keep The Dog Quiet / Mount Alpentine The Great Elsewhere Lewis Takes Action He Poos Clouds Independence Is No Solution Flare Gun Many Lives 49 MP Lewis Takes Off His Shirt ------------------------------ Interview Peach Plum Pear

I left after Owen's set though. I was so happy he had played first! I loved the strobo light during Keep the Dog Quiet, it made it look like the end of the world. I can't tell for sure but I think Owen was quite surprised by it too, it just added up to a perfect atmosphere. I've seen all of Owen's shows in Berlin and let me tell you, this was the best! By the way, the guy who was picked to help hold this one instrument during one song was a huge mono fan and only there to see them. So jealous he got to be on stage with Owen and get to shake hands, or did they even hug? Anyway, just thought to share my pictures with you all. more pictures over here: www.flickr.com/photos/ukneecorn/

I've just found out (and for once that's pretty fresh news) that Owen will be playing at la Route du Rock in August on the 13th. If only St-Malo wasn't so far... or if only I could have more vacations...

And I just found out that Owen is going to play Flow festival (again) in August. I can't believe it, he's already playing a gig here in June. Fantastic news but I really need to get a job, heh.

@lise: thanks for posting that! I wish I knew someone in St Malo to stay at... I was hoping Owen would play in France again during the summer...I don't know if I can make it to Villette Sonique on the 1st of June :/. It would be so great to see him at Rock en Seine! Anyway I wanted to ask, if anyone knows (Patrick ?) at what time Owen is supposed to play on the 1st of June in Paris? The Villette Sonique website says it's at 7.30 but the other 2 artists playing that night are scheduled at 7.30 too :/. Unless they're all playing at the same time, but I doubt it XD. (depending on the time I could probably make it...)
