well, after seeing the pw/bishi show last friday *beautiful!magical!* i have to revise my opinion on this whole "people-who-go-to-shows-just-to-get-some-really-bad-photos-for-lj" thing. it got so bad that patrick had to ask the crowd to please stop using their flash right at the beginning of the show.
camera phones - i didn't see a whole lot of them at this show & oh, c'mon! have a heart for the poor buggers who can't afford a nice digital camera (err... yes, well, like me, but i'm honestly not taking any of those pics, really!) & just want a crappy photo to help preserve the memory.
RUDENESS! = people who shove against you when there's still plenty of room at the front BEFORE the show has even started just so they can position themselves for the best shots up patrick's shorts. screw that! do ya think that your blatant invasion of my personal space will make me move? it won't. i certainly don't mind moving for a song or two for someone but all they have to do is ask!
weirdness - at one point i tore my eyes away from the stage during 'magic position' & it seemed like it was just me & a couple other kids dancing. wtf? everyone can't have been filming, very odd indeed.

when i saw patrick at the troubadour in may, there was this giant man in front of me and i kindly asked him if he would allow me to go in front of him, and he said "no, i've been waiting since 6 (the show started at 8) for this position, and besides, from your vantage point it's easier to see the 6'4" guy" but then whenever i would start dancing and you know, lightly brush him, because when people start dancing they sometimes tend to touch other people inadvertently with their jangly limbs, he would just turn around and give me this dirty look whilst he stood still. giant man, i still resent you for that. anyway irrelevant, i'm seeing patrick again tuesday, hopefully, no giant man this time.

i remember how a friend of mine (also a musician with long years stage experience) told me that concerts weren't the same anymore because nowadays it's just camera sreens and mobile phones in light blue that you're looking at and not people anymore. sad

I remember when PW was cool. When he dressed in black tails and sung haunting songs. Actually, I don't mind that he has changed. I'm pleased for him as it is obviously working. I'm just not interested anymore. Sponsored tours?? A secret gig! No flash please!
Hi everyone,
Before we set off for America, those kind people at Fujifilm gave us a bunch of cameras to record our adventures on the road. So we all snapped away throughout the US tour, and Patrick put together the first of a series of blogs which you can find here on Fuji's Facebook site: www.fujifilm.co.uk
In return for the cameras, Patrick will play an intimate, solo show on November 19 in a secret West End venue to only 100 people (kind of a warm-up for the solo tour, proper). No tickets will be put on sale for the show, but tickets can be won by visiting the self-same Fuji Facebook site.
One good thing, amongst a few, about the camera they gave us, is that it is great at shooting in low level light conditions - the kind you find at gigs. Meaning you rarely need to use the flash. Which brings us to a request...
Patrick does not mind that many of you turn up to the shows and snap away while he pours his heart and soul into his songs. But it makes it really difficult for him to concentrate if he's facing a barrage of flashes going off in his face throughout the show. Imagine, if you will, standing in front of a line of flashing cameras for an hour plus. Horrible, right? So we are asking all of you, as we do the professional snappers, if you're going to take pictures, then please, no flash!
Thanks.
Best,
Team Wolf

Toronto made that blog though! Go team streamers and exploding confetti!
*cough*
...I think with Patrick Wolf you have to expect the change. It seems to freak people out, though. All his albums have been different, and his new albums looks as though it will continue this trend judging by what he's said in interviews and such. And even though I am very much looking forward to the first half of the London show in December seeing him play solo a la Wind in the Wires/Lycanthropy, I like the band as well.
EDIT: Yeah I'll go on to say what Meryl already said...I'm pretty sure the tour wasn't sponsored. Besides seeing the band all with the same camera (yes, I did notice), if the tour was sponsored I think we would have seen the name somewhere or other.

It's not exactly a sponsored TOUR. And to be honest, I don't feel he's a corporate whore unless he's got FUJIFILM emblazoned across a T-shirt. Everyone needs money, and it won't affect how good the gig is. Or so I feel.

I'm not sad about his changes, I'm sad about him no longer being a little treasure. The world found out, and it's not about the music for most of them.

Actually thats probably true rue. If he was still a small unknown I don't think Id mind so much. I'm not saying I only like artist that I can keep to myself. I just don't dig the screaming fans and the scenesters.
The first few times I saw him it was an older crowd and he sounded and looked like a shy, super talented young man caught up in an older, more mystical time and place.
Cut to a few years later and with the change in style came the confidence, the posing and an identikit crowd. Over styled, over excited and vying for attention.
Sorry if that seems rude to anyone. Each to their own. It's just not for me anymore and I feel I have lost something I enjoyed very very much.
