What disrespect. You've gone too far for me, Jamie. I'll no longer buy anything that comes from you. Your view of the world is absolutely twisted.

well, obviously you haven't bought too many of xiu xiu's other cds, or you would have already realized that jamie holds pretty strong opinions about the current administration and the military that supports them

i agree with jamie on this one. it's a terrible thing, yes... but something of its ilk occurs constantly overseas, committed by americans.
if all of THEIR annoying/shitty youtube confessions were broadcast on nbc, there would be no time for deal or no deal.

i agree with jamie also. and he does acknowledge his prayers for the families of the victims at VT. and granted, i think that the war in iraq is a different issue, but it is true that americans really don't seem to care about the atrocities that americans commit to iraqi civilians and soldiers daily.
personally, i think it's very odd how american media is making such a huge deal out of the fact that the gunman at VT was south korean. i was a little bit amazed at how the student's race was the first thing they talked about when they discovered who he was. I think that if the killings were commited by white students, their race would never even be mentioned, they would only talk about their characteristics and such first. and i think that might have been part of the point that jamie was trying to make with that quote. non-white people are demonized consistently, and in the case of VT, social factors were the prime motivater, but the media frenzy is making the killer out to be a complete lunatic. if a white man went and killed 30 black people (on US soil, where else doesn't matter, clearly) the media would probably attempt to say that the black people were all "agitators" or some bullshit.
okay. that's enough ranting.

I own nearly all Xiu Xiu albums. A Promise is my favorite. I knew of his views, although I disagree with them, and I shrugged it off. Agreed to disagree.
But this has nothing to do with Iraq whatsoever. Besides, American troops aren't over there slaughtering people as Jamie suggested. If you actually pay attention, it's insurgents which kill hundreds a day.
I'd rather not get into an argument over Iraq. I'm just not buying Xiu Xiu albums anymore, because I don't want to support someone who takes such a tragic event and makes it political. I just wanted Jamie to know that, as I am sure he reads this board from time to time.
I'm not here to convert others to my point of view, so don't worry folks. Your beliefs are safe.

i dont think the idea was to make the tragedy political
to be honest, the way america went "oh" is one of the first things i thought of as well, to contrast the virginia tech tragedy with something we see every day (iraq) similar in context to murder/suicide is perfectly acceptable, we have truly been desensitized by the flood of numbers shown on television every day and night
i think he posts things like that to scare people like you away
the ones who are truly making this political are the ones campaigning for/against their specific gun control regulations

i agree with jamie and the other posters as well.
however, i completely understand your (sschaula) perspective as well. if you dont like what jamie has to say, dont buy his records anymore.
to todd and everyone else: the OP never said "OMFG guys plz boycott xiu cuz jamie is a libral and he's all like anti war". he just said that he disagrees with what jamie said and will no longer buy albums.
no biggy.

To be honest, Iraq is not something you see everyday. You see a filtered image of it. That filtered image is then refiltered by your political stance. To quote you: Yes, you truly have been desensitized. Yet you parade it around like it's a decent thing...by saying it's okay to compare the two cases. If anyone here actually believes Jamie, that American troops themselves have killed that many Iraqi citizens, that's just further stupidity. It just shows how sheepish you are, and how twisted of a shepherd Jamie is. People like me? You don't know me, nor does Jamie. Lumping me into a group with someone else...someone who is scared by what Jamie posted, is absolutely foolish. That'd be just as foolish as me lumping Jamie or yourself into a group, like maybe "terrorists". Why would I do that, besides to piss you off? Now the question is: why are you trying to piss me off? To be clear: what Jamie posted didn't scare me. Hardly anything does. But it WAS the last straw for me. I used to purchase Xiu Xiu albums because I like to support good artists...but now I will download them for free. That's right...I'm not burning them...I agree, that does smell bad. People with such a fucked view of the world don't deserve to make money. If they kept it to themselves, that's fine, but he's spreading his sickness into your minds as well, and obviously most here have taken the bait. It's a sad thing to see, and I don't want to support that.

Regarding that comic strip:
I want to make it really clear that American troops aren't the cause of those numbers. Pay attention to the news when it says "suicide bomber".

sounds like you voted for bush in 04, sschaula
no one cares that you are going to stop buying albums because said artist made an offensive comment (as perceived by you) on his website.
the fact is, you knew that posting something like this would cause controversy among the board particularly due in part to most of the people here being diehard xiu xiu fans, so dont get all up in arms over my post; i dont really think a point by point rebuttal was necessary.
so fuck you, youre just propelling hatred even more

if you do not wish to talk with the board about iraq then email jamie at willitburn@hotmail.com and stop talking about/around iraq. or bring up some points rather than complain about others.

there are no thought crimes. we should all be able to share our opinions. go back to fox news.
