i have all his stuff now too and can't recommend it enough either. gummo showed me something i never saw in film or art. before gummo, the range of my tastes was dependent on what i could find at the store and what i could easily rent. i remember when it came out and i heard someone connecting it to kids (i still hadn't seen that either) and i tracked down a copy at a corner store (i still don't know why they got it when they only had about 30 movies and all from the 80s with a couple die hards). after i watched it for the first time i sat in silence all the way through the credits and started yelling to my brother and to no one in particular. soon after i started ordering movies but ill never forget that moment i saw that there was an alternative to what i thought was the only way to experience film. i nearly fucking cried. that must have been so cool to see him speak. ive watched that video. i still wonder sometimes when i see as video of him if someone is going to walk up and punch him have you seen the pics from mister lonely? www.harmony-korine.com/paper/main/misterlonelyphotos.htmlmore herzog acting action! something that surprises me daily is that there are people here with the same tastes as i have. this is the longest ive ever been a member of a forum and certainly the forum with the least amount of shit on it. xiu xiu for life!

i tried to get happiness and satyricon tonight, and the store i went to didn't have either of them on dvd, and apparently my parents are against vcrs now? so i got i vitelloni and masculin feminin instead. and i'm pretty sure they didn't have gummo, but i really want to see that now too.
movies are so fun.
but....a word to the wise....if you have netflix, you should switch. they do this technique called "throttling" which basically means that if you watch alot of movies (like several a week) they will deliberately take longer to send you your movies. which is shit. apparently they make more money out of people who watch less movies. boo them.

I didn't like Gummo, infact i don't like alot of Harmony Korine films.
I would suggest getting Carandiru.

i agree with almost everything here.
the only thing that hasnt been mentioned are "dogme films," and i would defiantely recommend everyone to venture into this style of film making. lars von triar has made two or three dogme films, and almost all are foreign.
gummo i loved/hated. but i'm a cheerleader is hilarious jesus is magic the day the earth stood still

i love netflix... i've heard about the throttling thing, but i haven't noticed it too bad... then again, i'm on the 2-at-a-time rate, and i don't watch them that quickly, so i get 2-3 movies in the mail a week for around $15 a month.. it's a hell of a lot cheaper than renting, and netflix's collection is pretty extensive (not perfect, but good)
as for last exit to brooklyn, i picked up a used vhs a while ago when i found this indie rental house that was clearing out for dvds... i was actually pretty impressed with it; it's almost as destructive as the book, although some of the acting was problematic
