well the files are so large because they are lossless. from what i can remember back in my collecting-ever-pumpkins-show-ever phase i kind of felt the ratio was like, if youre looking at a 4MB mp3, its going to be 40MB if its in SHN (lossless). it might be slightly less for flac, but im not entirely sure.

.flac is lossless which means youre hearing it exactly how it recorded to the player, as long as mastering wasnt done to alter the sound, etc etc. mp3s are wayyyyy lossy. they sound like tin compared to a flac or shn if you have a decent soundcard. good mp3s sound exactly the same as flac as long as they are from a 1st generation source flac and shn are only used to stop the degredation from wav -> mp3 -> cd -> wav -> mp3 -> wma -> mp3 -> cd -> wav -> shn -> torrent happening so that people don't start trading shitty copies |

i, too, can't use flac. well.. i'm sure can. i'm just retarded. can anyone help me out? can these turn into mp3s? or can someone message me and help me with this flac thing? i really want to hear this show, i've just never downloaded any flac. files before.

I used to be a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan/collector too. There's some ratio in using lossless. A 10mb .wav file turns into a 1mb MP3@128kbps and SHN and FLAc sit somewhere towards the .wav filespace. I can't remember. Has the Brisbane show been posted anywhere yet? |

MP3 vs. FLAC is sort of like living in a house, compared to living in a house that has a special coating of 'special' paint that looks more beautiful than normal paint, if you are 'good' enough to 'see' it.
