the forum's been a little quiet the past while, and I know everyone must have a favourite lyric or two at least…
one of mine is "they say heartbreak is good for the skin, but all that it's helped is my drinking"
yours?

All the lyrics! But really Jars of Lars was always one of my favourites lyrically. Also Your Light is Spent is nice in its simplicity. I'm really excited about the new lyrics too, I can't wait to hear them all in context.

Jars of Lars is a personal fave too, I love the Les Mouches-y lyrics. Also from Took You Two Years, I love the line "more surprising than two years of lying is how people let you get away with it," he makes it flow sooo well.

I also love the lines "What melody will lead my lover from his bed/what melody will see him in my arms again" from Cliquot. I'm probably just going to post favourite snippets of songs whenever they come to mind, ha

I love a lot of his lyrics, like the sculptress lines from Lewis Takes Off His Shirt, hell, most of Heartland, but I always adored the way he sings "scan the sky for signs of heaven. Heaven, what use is heaven for you?" from Your Light is Spent.

The new lyrics. I feel like this album is going to be a whole step up (as if that was possible!).
Finishing The Riverbed on
"Thunderhead, thunderhead I will be your riverbed"
well... it just floors me, and I haven't even heard the full song yet.

I just want to add how inspiring Owen's latest post about his lyrical process is; such a great reminder that it's okay for your art to keep changing and evolving. and also how fantastic it is to see/hear these new lyrics that reflect on his life. I read an article on him in Macleans a couple years ago and he says "I f I was going to write an autobiographical song, I'd probably be writing about red wine reduction and all the different ways you can spoon with somebody". but look where we are now! haha

So yeah, it's not properly autobiographical, but it is all true. (So were the other records, though)

still wonderfully abstract, of course, just a more accessible format I suppose. so lovely to have all these different lyrical perspectives.

I really like a lot of the new lyrics too, and I feel like they'll be even better once we hear them within the context of the songs. I want to give a shout-out to:
"The only girl I ever fell in love with Taught me how to drink as if it needed To be taught I’d always give that girl another shot"
from "The Sky Behind the Flag"
Owen usually isn't that deliberately punny, and I love it.
