Also, also, also, I've only very recently come across Laurie Anderson, Big Science and so much more! I don't understand how finding her could've taken me so long but I'm at peace now having her music and work in my life. ME TOO. What was wrong with me through my undergrad where I ignored the road signs directing me that way? A++ to you for following them. Anyway, I saw her last January and it was everything I've wanted in a live performance; she's also super down-to-earth and lovely. I'm now writing the term papers on her in my MA like I should've been writing forever.

Speaking of Sufjan, I haven't listened to the entirety of his new Christmas material yet (that will probably take a while), but I have heard Christmas Unicorn and it's one of the best things to ever exist. I urge everyone here to listen to this glorious song. This board doesn't talk about Sufjan very often for whatever reason I guess... I loved the album. His work being this evidence of practicing and experiencing an interest/growing understanding in aesthetics has always made him one of the big ones for me. I've listened to his newest holiday release many, many times this winter and am so grateful it's blowing up across the web/world. It's no less than astonishing and awe provoking when a work of art transcends the tangible piece and extends itself to the artist's life, our shared experiences, cultures, and traditions, our perspectives on the world, and in this particular case, yep, even the universe. But I guess that's why we love all music, right? When an artists reality reaches out to wonder, whether it be christmas unicorns or the worlds of Spectrum and Heartland, something pretty cool starts going on. I'M A CRAZY PERSON WHO JUST LOVES CHRISTMAS MUSIC ME TOO. I'd love to read that Esther!!! A++?! Hooray! I would have never found out about her had I not ranted to my (amazing) composition professor about the science and philosophy elements in Simon Bookish's Everything/Everything. Once I showed it to her and told her it was the only context in which I've yet to really enjoy saxophone writing, she flipped out by how it was all so parallel to her experience with the Big Science album throughout her undergrad years.

Heh, no need to cross all that out, I enjoyed reading it. I haven't gotten around to listening to his new Christmas material yet but that certainly inspired me to do so soon.
Also, I've been casually interested in both Simon Bookish and Laurie Anderson for a while now, so I guess I should get started with that as well.

I just started working in a very classy London luxury department store that shall remain unnamed, so my going to work playlist is anything that makes me feel like strong independent woman with the confidence to sell the rich and the famous expensive tableware.

I've been getting into ambient recently. There are certain types of sounds I prefer, and in finding those I've come across many albums that sound really similar to each other. This can happen in any genre, but maybe not to this extent, or maybe I'm just missing the differences. I was disappointed at first that Bat For Lashes' new album abandoned the classical feel for a more synth-pop one, but once I got over that I was playing it nonstop. I thought it was bland on first listen, then it sounded better and better each time.

I saw "them" (I'm always just thinking of Elena Tonra as "Daughter") by chance when I was in London in 2010, and my friends and I spent most of her performance with our mouths open; Elena's voice is just so haunting and delicious and wonderful and I love everything about their sound.

I love Cerulean so much... Obsidian is going to need a bit of warming up to for sure. I have high hopes though!

Christmas Unicorn is golden... I've had a renewed obsession for Austra lately. I found out about the Deluxe edition of Feel it Break, and there are some REALLY good extra tracks. favorite one right now: www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9ePy5vCGvM

I'll just quote what I posted erroneously in the smalltalk topic: I thought there was a topic on this board about what music you've been listening to lately, but apparently it either disappeared or I imagined it, so I thought I'd ask here instead. As for me, it's mostly been Earth, Wind, and Fire lately. I decided to explore their entire discography and it's been a great time. I've also been getting back into Andy Falkous' bands (mclusky and Future of the Left). And just earlier today I listened to a Rodan album (Rusty) that I really enjoyed.

Earth Wind & Fire is great. I don't know if you know Ludovico Einaudi but his Divenire, Una Mattina and In A Time Lapse are great albums. He's the only one besides Owen I want to see/hear live.
