Thanks for the new suggestions, Sunburned. Unfortunately I'm only looking for pop-music in this thread. I'm as satisfied as I can be in the instrumental side of music, as I have the masters to go to. I don't need to look further than Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, etc. At least not for now.
The pop music you suggested was only unique (to me) in superficial ways. The structures were still bland, and the melodies were too repetitive for my tastes. I really appreciate you taking the time to make suggestions though, it's always nice to give something new a chance!

Sort of side note, does anyone have Sarah Neufeld's album Hero Brother? If so, I would appreciate it if you could share the love.

If Swedish electronica is your bag then give Iamamiwhoami a Bash, listen to the "bounty" playlist then maybe "kin" and whatever the new album is going to be... Blue, I think. The project is worth a try even if purely for the stunning music videos. www.youtube.com/user/iamamiwhoamiAlso *please* tell me your username is a reference to Female Trouble? Sort of living for Divine just now (literally watching Lust in the Dust as we speak)

I haven't seen anyone mention Cold Specks yet! She's a Canadian artist with a very earthy sound, really poetic lyrics and a sort of hymnal quality. She reminds me of a female version of Tom Waits. I would recommend trying out her songs "Blank Maps", "A Broken Memory" and "Exit Plan".

Oh also...since he's been covering Pretty Good Year, I recommend Tori Amos. I'd start with "Pretty Good Year", "Caught a Lite Sneeze", "Spark" and "Mother". She has fantastic melodies and intricate piano arrangements! Plus the sort of off-beat free-association lyrics that I associate with some of Owen's best work.

I actually heard/read that Owen dyed his hair red as an homage to Tori. saw her in July, and she truly is a brilliant artist and performer with such raw emotionality.
