Help me find new music! ....Please....

Wow, Neu! and Virginia Astley I haven't thought about in a long time. I've been listening to music lately and happenned on this forum. Thanks for the Wilco direction. It's hard for me to figure your parameters of vocals and density of music. I like meandering songs, more rhythm and chord change. Some of these are foreign - be forgiving on English lyrics. Here's some stuff I like:

Tortoise TNT (post-rock, no vocals) must be only this album by them for me.

Idaho (slowcore), try "reminder". I only know the newest album and his first Year after Year.

Mew (heavier) - And the Glass Handed Kites (crunchier cohesive album) or Frengers (pop singles starting with Am I Wry, No)

Mum (icelandic lo-fi twee) Green Grass or Yesterday Was Dramatic

His Name is Alive - (my favorite back in the day) Mouth By Mouth

Kings of Convenience - (easy to relax to) any album

Mouse on Mars (electronic, no vocals)- Niun Niggung

The Church (more straightforward) - Priest=Aura

Hey dude,

I (like many others) enjoy the same music as you.

So... I thought I would recommend a few more groups.

Bon Iver - I know you said that you weren't a fan, but have you heard his second self-titled album, Bon Iver? I think it's pretty good. Some great arrangements too.
M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us and Hurry Up, We're Dreaming are both excellent. It's shoe gazing, electronic, minimalism, so you could like it. Some great orchestral stuff on both albums.
Shara Worden - My Brightest Diamonds - she was one of the illinoisemakers (backup singers for Sufjan Stevens) and she covers Owen Pallett's The Great Elsewhere. She is an amazing singer and musician.
Gorillaz - I don't know what you think of them, they aren't exactly what you are looking for, but they have a lot of gems if you give em a chance. Try El Manana or Hong Kong, I think you'll find Damon Albarn is quite an intelligent musician.
The Antlers - I recommend their album Hospice. Songs like Bear and Two are excellent choices with some great brass work, but they are minimalist shoegazers so don't expect a wide breadth in vocal melody. Lots of falsetto. Hehe.
The Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca. If you are looking for something that is interesting, unusual, and beautiful, look no further.
Bjork - Pretty much everything she does is worth checking out. If you don't know her music well, check out The Dull Flame of Desire, her duet with Antony Hegarty. That specific song is also great because it has dirge like elements, and it is a total brassterpiece.
Antony Hegarty - Check out Epilepsy is Dancing and Another World.
Bat for Lashes - Now she runs more of a synth project, so I suggest you check out her first album Fur and Gold. Specifically check out Horse & I, The Wizard, and Daniel.
The Format - Because you like Anathallo, you should check out their album, Dog Problems. I see them both together live, and I believe they said that the horns for the album were provided by Anathallo. Don't waste your time with their first album.

So... Yeah, those are my suggestions.
I agree with you on those groups, I'm not the biggest Wilco fan, but I do like Sky Blue Sky, and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
Out of the groups, I think the best groups to watch live are Sufjan Stevens and Arcade Fire. I've seen them both and they may be the best concerts I've ever been to. Also, Owen is awesome live, saw him twice. Bon Iver, if you do end up taking to the second album, he puts on a great show. Anathallo was awesome. Check em out live, they are amazing to experience.

I run a large collective (around 42 members) and it is very pop/rock/orchestral stuff. Nothing too serious, very light, the composition work isn't nearly on the same level as Owen or Sufjan, but you might enjoy it. I couldn't attach the song, so here are some links.

Has no one really recommended Beirut? I thought that would be obvious given your apparent disposition towards brass/string and generally orchestral pop music. Owen Pallett Arranged the strings on "The Flying Club Cup", surely you've heard of it before.

It can be hard to find real orchestral pop, as most of the searches you make will yield a generic pop/rock arrangement that has one spontaneous flute or violin. If you like a variety of acoustic/orchestral instruments being played in modern ways, then I'd recommend the following:

However, I think in terms of music that is innovative and interesting to check out, fusion "world music" (don't particularly like that term but anyways) is stellar!


Silk Road Project - their whole goal is to promote collaboration between artists around the world, I think it might have been started by the cellist Yo Yo Ma? IMO the pure joy and energy they have when performing deserves a watch.
