Not really. Heartland is really good, and Polaris rewards good albums.

Ah, you get the e-mail Esther, huh? I am very happy to see Owen Pallett being nominated and I am pretty happy to see some Quebecois/Francophone stuff being nominated (very happy to see the excellent Belmundo Regal by Radio Radio being nominated). I might post what I'd like the Shortlist to be. You should all do the same!

Woo and hoo. Congrats, Owen!
I really haven't listened to many of the other nominees, so I'd also be eager to see some prospective shortlists.

Ah, you get the e-mail Esther, huh? And follow the Twitter and checked AT 1:00 when the results were announced. I'm really into the Polaris Prize! It has become an annual tradition for me to listen to all of the albums. And Thomas, I was being sarcastic. I think we all know it'll be on the shortlist, and I'd be not at all surprised if Owen takes it again.

And. Yes. Along with: The Besnard Lakes - ...Are the Roaring Night Tegan and Sarah - Sainthood Caribou - Swim Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record Karkwa - Les Chemins De Verre Dan Mangan - Nice, Nice, Very Nice Radio Radio - Belmundo Regal The Sadies - Darker Circles Shad – TSOL
I am sad some of the long-listers I was hopeful/am crazy about didn't make it, but I like all of these records. I also think a french band is due to win.

Alright, record-by-record revue? I think so!
The Besnard lakes - ...Are the Roaring Night The Besnard Lakes are an amazing band, but I feel like this record isn't their best/the best. I firmly believe they should've won with their previous record "...Are the Dark Horse"
Broken Social Scene -- Forgiveness Rock Record A big Meh for me. It was not a bad record at all. It just didn't catch my attention that much. I'll give it another listen, but I hope it doesn't win. I hope they'll forgive me. (pun intended)
Caribou -- Swim Didn't listen to it yet, and I've heard great things about it.
Dan Mangan -- Nice, Nice, Very Nice Didn't listen to this one either, but will get around to it.
Karkwa - Les Chemins de Verre I was very happy to hear Grant Lawrence announce this one. Great record by one of my favourite Quebecois bands. They make incredible music and it's cool that they'll get a bit more exposure.
Owen Pallett -- Heartland Win.
Radio Radio -- Belmundo Regal Another great record by another great band. Again, I was really surprised/excited to see that this record was shortlisted.
The Sadies -- Darker Circles Didn't listen to it either.
Shad -- TSOL Read previous comment.
Tegan and Sara -- Sainthood. I am a bt disappointed to see this one too. I don't really care about Tegan and Sara, to be honest.

I was listening to them announce the list at work and kept internally flailing with each name. I'm really happy with this list - I feel like either Shad (underrepresented genre when it comes to the Polaris!) or Dan Mangan (swoon, this man is awesome) will take it, but all of the records are amazing. It'd be lovely to see Owen win again (I have to say that on here, right? Kidding - I do genuinely mean it.) and while it'd be nice to see Tegan and Sara or BSS take it, I don't feel like those are their strongest albums that they've put out.

I like your odds Owen. Do you mind to buy me a Minimoog when you win again? Thanks.

Thanks for the props, guys.
It's been a weird feeling to have a second album nominated. On one hand, I would love to give up "Heartland"'s spot for the Frog Eyes record, Basia's record, the Crystal Castles record, the Picastro record, the Mantler record, the Sunset Rubdown record. On the other hand, in 2006, I felt as if "He Poos Clouds" was one of the weakest albums of the ten and I chalked up its win to a streak of stick-it-to-the-majors perversion in the jury. With "Heartland", though, I feel differently, I feel holds its own and I appreciate that it made the shortlist and in such fine company.
I just think that it's important that people remember that me and all the other bands on this list, we are making albums. And it's an incredible workload and there's not a lot of money in it. We don't make music for a standing ovation, or for beer tickets, or to "meet girls", or to win awards. We make music because all of us, at one point, have had a record touch us, save our lives. It's not an honourable occupation but it's a humanistic one. That's all.

Owen, thank you so much for your thoughts and just know that the reason all of us are rooting for you is because your albums have been the ones to save our lives. However, you have also inspired us to look at music through new, and more open eyes, and I am sure that all of us will have great respect and admiration for whomever the winner may be.

And then Kanye would rush the stage...
"Yo, Owen. I'm really happy for you, and I'm'a let you finish, but I had one of the best drunken interruptions of all time. OF ALL TIME."
