Hey, I saw Owen's Union Chapel show and it was an awesome surprise to hear Nico Muhly perform too... I'd been listening to his album Mothertongue lately by coincidence! I didn't know Sam Amidon, though the friend I went to the gig with did - so when Owen anounced them I was like " NICO MUHLY?!" and she was like " SAM AMIDON?!", hehe. Aaanyway, after poking around on myspace we found their upcoming Whale Watching Tour, also featuring Ben Frost and Valgeir Sigurðsson (neither of which I know yet.) So we instantly booked tickets for their Reading show, and here are the tourdates according to Mister Muhly's Myspace: *** 19 Apr 2010 20:00 Vooriut - Whale Watching Tour Gent 20 Apr 2010 19:30 The Barbican - Whale Watching Tour London, London and South East 21 Apr 2010 21:15 National Concert Hall - Whale Watching Tour Dublin, Dublin 24 Apr 2010 20:00 Arnolfini - Whale Watching Tour Bristol, Southwest 25 Apr 2010 19:30 Reading Concert Hall - Whale Watching Tour Reading, South 4 May 2010 21:30 Sala - Whale Watching Tour Torino 6 May 2010 19:00 Minoritenkirche - Whale Watching Tour Donau Festival Krems 8 May 2010 19:30 Uppsala Konzert & Kongress - Whale Watching Tour Uppsala 16 May 2010 20:00 The National Theatre (Þjóðleikhúsið) - Whale Watching Tour Reykjavík *** Sorry if this is old news, and that I'm not exactly sure what this tour/ensemble entails, but I thought I'd share the info I've dug up for anyone else who enjoyed Sam & Nico's variety hour! www.myspace.com/samamidonwww.myspace.com/muhlywww.myspace.com/theghostofbenfrostwww.myspace.com/valgeirsbedroomcommunity.grapewire.net/Matt xx

Thanks Matt! I was at Union Chapel too and like your pal was already a Nico fan. By weird coincidence Sam's album arrived from amazon this week and it was just playing while I was reading your post! Think I may have to go whale watching myself...

Think I may have to go whale watching myself... You're welcome! I was the Nico fan of the two of us, but Sam was new to me... I'll be getting something of his from iTunes after payday..! What's the CD you're listening to? How is it?

I heard about this, might go to the Dublin show, but I'll have to check out their stuff first.

I was the Nico fan of the two of us, but Sam was new to me... Oops yeah I got that the wrong way round! Sam was new to me too, aside from his contribution to Mothertongue of course. What's the CD you're listening to? How is it? It's "All is Well", which was on sale at the merch table in Islington but I didn't buy it at the time. Around half the songs from the show are on the album I think, with Nico's arrangements. Only played it once so far but it's good.
