Just got back from the first of two shows at St. Matthew's United Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Basia Bulat opened the show, she played for about 50 minutes. I wasn't very familiar with her music before the show, but i was very impressed. She played 5 different instruments, and she finished her set with an acapella song. She seemed generally happy to be playing for us, and she was tremendously talented. I'll definitely be checking out more of her music soon.
After about 15 minutes of waiting, Owen came out and immediately blew me away. Thomas came out for the second song, and he was on and off for the rest of the night. The best word i could use to describe their set would be 'badass'. When i saw them in October they were really great, but this time they really seemed to be much more connected. I was front and center this time, and i could practically reach out and touch them. It made for a very intimate show. Also, i got the setlist from Thomas ;D
Setlist: The Man With No Ankles Keep The Dog Quiet -> Mount Alpentine The Great Elsewhere Flare Gun The Butcher This is The Dream Of Win and Regine E is For Estranged Lewis Takes Action Many Lives 49 MP Honour The Dead Or Else This Lamb Sells Condos Lewis Takes Off His Shirt The CN Tower Belongs To The Dead Midnight Directives
It was a great show, and i can't wait to see them again tomorrow!
Also, i have a crappy audio recording that i'll be posting soon. I didn't record Basia's set, but i think i'll record both tomorrow night.

Ah yes, I approve of the Basia Bulat love. Incidently, I discovered her material when she opened for (RIP) Final Fantasy in 2007. I was a little disappointed that she's not opening on the Montreal show, but from what I've heard, Diamong Rings is pretty ace.

Ah, Basia love thirded! She's just lovely. I would be so completely pleased if she and Owen were to collaborate on something.
But Anthony, Diamond Rings is fun too - I don't think you'll be disappointed (though his style is admittedly quite different from Basia's!!)
I'm interested to see Snowblink, who are opening here in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Both times I have seen Owen I was front and center and I arrived two hours before doors open. I was however, the only one there for about 45 minutes haha, but better safe than sorry, and OF COURSE it was worth it. Also, Diamond Rings is wonderful and so much fun. AND, Man With No Ankles is the best opening song ever. EVER. ever.

Thanks I showed up yesterday at 5pm, two hours before doors open. I was second in line. I'll be showing up at around the same time tonight. And yes, there was a merch table in the back left corner. Shirts were $22, and i think CD's were $15 Man With No Ankles is the best opening song ever. EVER. ever. I totally agree! He was a few feet in front of me during that song. I thought my head was going to explode. It's hard to process that amount of awesomeness.

Saw the Thursday show....fantastic !! Basia was a little late getting started, but it was worth the wait. What a talent...what a sweetheart! Owen and Tom were great start to finish. My first time seeing Owen and definitely not the last. Please dont ever forget Halifax. As a fan I certainly appreciate your availibility (ie. your postings here) and your music is such a breath of fresh air. The hilights for me was hearing Song Song Song. I found it difficult in such an intimate setting not to scream/clap out beats and sing back up. But I did my best. And it was awesome when Tom took off his sweater/shirt just before Lewis Takes Off His Shirt. That was very cool. Man that was a good show !

I'm new here. I'm Adam.
I'd been trying to see Owen for about 3 years. In 2007 when he came, I couldn't make it down to Halifax- I'm originally from Moncton. Then, the next time he came was in 2009, with NS Symphony, and that one sold out before I could get a ticket. So I'd been waiting for this day for a long time, and...
I was blown away! I ended up going both nights because, after Wednesday, I knew I'd hate myself for missing one of his shows that I had the opportunity to go too. I got my picture taken with Owen and Thomas. Both were really nice about it! And that meant alot. I had my picture taken once with Destroyer/Dan Bejer and he was less than pleasant about it.

Thursday night's show was just as good or better then the show on wednesday. Basia kicked ass again. She made sure to change up her set a bit for the second timers, and that was much appreciated. Owen and Thomas were on fire. They played for about 65 minutes, would've been nicer to have them on for a little longer, but it was great regardless. Basia's set: Hush Heart Of My Own The Pilgriming Vine Go On Snakes and Ladders Gold Rush Run I'm Forgetting Everyone w/Thomas Gill Before I Knew The Shore I Was A Daughter Owen and Thomas's set: Love Song To An Empty Room Midnight Directives Flare Gun The Butcher Many Lives 49 MP He Poos Clouds Took You Two Years To Win My Heart The Is The Dream Of Win And Regine Keep The Dog Quiet -> Mount Alpentine The Great Elsewhere Lewis Takes Action Independence Is No Solution Lewis Takes Off His Shirt Song Song Song Fantasy (Mariah Carey cover) Interesting facts learned at the show: - Thomas is a great dancer. He has some sick moves. ;D - I met a girl in line who came all the way from Japan to see Owen. It was her 13th Owen Pallett show. - Owen had Scandel At The Parkade on the setlist, but he didn't play it. Scandel At The Parkade is my favorite Owen song, so i was pretty crushed that he skipped it. I asked him after the show why he didn't play it , and he said he lost his nerve. He said he's working on it with Thomas, so hopefully they play it soon. - Thomas said after the show that they'll be coming back to Halifax after the Europe tour.
