Thanks for clearing up some of the confusion Jules. I read that a while back, but forgot the important bits.

Thanks for clearing up some of the confusion Jules. I read that a while back, but forgot the important bits. Hey. what do I know...I'm probably the least qualified to interprete the lyrics and you're doing a lot better than me. I just enjoy reading all the thoughts because it's interesting.

You guys are thinking about it too much like a book and not enough like a 2-disc playstation game.
Midnight - Shirt = Disc 1
Elsewhere - What = Disc 2
Midnight Directives is the opening FMV..
Flare Gun is the over-world music....etc etc

Flare Gun is the over-world music....etc etc Now all I can picture is a giant pixelated Lewis running around while a MIDI arrangement of Flare Gun plays. Then the screen becomes swirly, a cockatrice appears, you select Lewis' special attack, and he rips off his shirt and punches the bird right in the beak. If I knew anything about RPG Maker, I would be starting this project right now.

Actually, wouldn't that be great if Square/Enix would present a Final Fantasy: Heartland? Goddamnit, I am going to nerdgasm now, excuse me.

Hey guys.
I'm not going to answer too many questions about the interpretation of these lyrics. But here are a few hints.
Heartland is the name of an album. Spectrum is the name of a kingdom. The songs on "Spectrum 14th Century" are traditional songs, not sung by anyone in particular. Flare gun and E is for Estranged were originally meant to be b-sides, but were swapped at Jeremy's suggestion. They are two of three songs in this 'cycle' that are not sung by Lewis, the other one being a song called Owen's voice.
The original Heartland tracklisting was as follows:
Red sun no. 5 Wella-Balsam reverie (aka Ankles) Scandal at the parkade Lewis takes action The great elsewhere Oh Heartland, up yours! Lewis takes off his shirt Keep the dog quiet / Mount Alpentine Tryst with Mephistopheles Midnight directives (original title: The end of time) What do you think will happen now?
At the suggestion of my friend Kevin, The end of time made a much better opening track, so I rewrote the lyrics and renamed it Midnight directives.
I am scoring a film right now, not thinking about b-sides.
Looking forward to the album release, though. I have the packaging in my hands and it is gorgeous.
Warmth, Owen

One last note. I fully expected to recycle and change the order of the songs... the flow of the album is far more important to me than the cohesion of the narrative.

This thread has been really interesting/enlightening/intriguing! One last note. I fully expected to recycle and change the order of the songs... the flow of the album is far more important to me than the cohesion of the narrative. That's interesting too.. I really like that you're not so precious about chronology that it'd be detrimental to the flow.. And anyway, a story can be told in different ways, right? Can't wait to hear how this works live ;D Matt

....Scandal at the Parkade?! gahhh (I still hope this song isn't gone for good)
I don't think we ever congratulated you on getting the Rabbit Hole film score gig. Thats fantastic. I'd imagine You'd be exhausted.

Wella-Balsam reverie (aka Ankles) Scandal at the parkade I shat a brick. I'm assuming (aka hoping) Wella-Balsam reverie is similar, at leat in structure, to The Man With No Ankles. But Owen said in a live recording that its a "new" song, so it might make an appearance on the next album, ditto with Parkade. UGHGHGH. MY FAVOURITE SONGS NEXT TO HtDoE.
