Hi everyone - I'm new here and new-ish to Mr Pallett's wonderful music. I'm seeing him at the Union Chapel next year and am so excited..! So I've been a bit obsessed with "He Poos Clouds" this year - the album and song - and have transcribed/arranged the song for piano/vocal. Piano part is a (hopefully) playable reduction of the album orchestration. I hope someone here might get some enjoyment from it! Please let me know if you spot any typos or anything. Look forward to being part of this community, especially with the advent of Heartland and associated gigs!! Attachments:

Looks great, Mark! Here's an orchestral version of the song for comparison Woah, thanks so much Owen! I'm such a geek when it comes to having full scores to read along with, this is awesome . Happy New Year and look forward to your Union Chapel gig . And thanks Alyssa, hope you enjoy. Yeah, I hope to be freelancing with typesetting/orchestral arrangement/composition and things eventually (a boy can dream), so I though this might be one for the portfolio (hence my contact at the top) Hi Richie! Thanks for directing me to this place Matt

Thank you so much. I 've also been quite obsessed with He Poos Clouds lately but too lazy to try writing a piano transcription. I wish I add a printer to play it right away.

Ah, that's what an ossia is. That's helpful for late page 5, early page 6. But...in the LH in that area, you notate to hold C1, G1, and C2 while playing the rising theme with the same hand. One is supposed to hold the chord for 6 beats during that...and if you're holding on, that means you'd have to span first 10ths, and then 11ths and upwards with one hand. Should there be a pedal there? Even my hands aren't that big.
Also I appreciated the double-dotting on page 2. ;D

Thanks Alyssa! Yeah, definitely pedal during that bit of the bridge (and liberally throughout if you're anything like me, haha - sustain hides a multitude of sins) - I think I just didn't add in the pedal bracket there, as with those chords being so low on the stave the pedalling marks look messy. I could add a written instruction perhaps. But yea, good spot . Haha, any excuse for double-dotting ;D. Matt

I haven't had the chance to play it yet, Matt, but let me join the chorus in saying the arrangement looks really great. It shall definitely be going on my piano sometime soon. Thanks!
Also, thanks for the orchestral score, Owen! As a huge nerd, I really enjoy being able to see that kind of stuff. In fact, I think I'm gonna take my string bass out of its case for the first time in ages and briefly relive my days as part of an orchestra.

The sustain pedal certainly came in handy on "escape, escape"...I know of no human being who could reach that C5 and B5 while hitting the F#4. But again, sustain'd. Ever since I saw Owen's scored noted as (5+2)/(2), I've been wondering about proper beaming and beat divisions. You seem to oscillate by measure on whether to write dotted quarters or tied quarters. Is that arbitrary, or is there a method? I was working out the rhythm on the train today, and played it at my ladyfriend's house. I only got haltingly through the first 3 pages with two hands, but goddamn if that doesn't sound brilliant. I never realized that the measure-ending chord in the first verse was GM7, and so it sounded a bit odd to me, but I think it makes sense in the recording...just one of those things you expect to sound a certain way that really isn't true. A lot of really good work...I can't get over how clear the typesetting is. I've read official edition bach fugues less tight than this.

I am loving the scores.
Owen, do you have a violin transcription for Song Song Song? I just can't figure it out.

The sustain pedal certainly came in handy on "escape, escape"...I know of no human being who could reach that C5 and B5 while hitting the F#4. But again, sustain'd. Yeah, again, that def needs to be sustained to give that hanging feeling... Hmm, that's a good point. For me it's usually a case of clarity - if you notate off beats as crotchets, rather than tied quavers, then sometimes it's easy to lose track of the rhythm within the bar (especially long 7/4 bars). I think in my head I was breaking the 7/4 down as (4+3)/4, so anything which is played across the 4th-5th beat got tied, as if an imaginary barline. Though I can see looking at it I've definitely not been consistent with that. It was a while ago I notated this! I imagine most times I did whatever I thought was clearest rhythmically, or what made most sense for articulation... Anyway, glad you're enjoying it!

matt - this is absolutely brilliant. only makes me appreciate even further the amazingness of the song!
and owen if you want to keep on sharing these gems, bit by bit please feel free!
also, as someone who dread scoring things and using poring over Finale for what seems like years on end, your fonts and scores look awesome.
