Hey everyone. I thought it was just about time to start talking about Owen's January tour in America. I'm very new to the forums but do you guys ever get rides from each other? I'm out of VT but I don't have a ride to the show. Is anyone going to the show at the Bowery Ballroom from VT? I would help pay for gas and provide snacks  |

Not to sound like your mom, but please be really careful when it comes to meeting people online. The friends I keep in regular contact on this board, I know outside this forum, you should always exercise caution when it comes to meeting someone, and asking someone for a ride sounds ridiculously risky, even if it is going to see Owen.
Remember, the internet is just full of weirdos like me.

I've met a ton of people from forums and such. Most people aren't evil lying axe-murderers, and there are plenty of ways to be safe about it. Meet them in a public place, don't go anywhere with them if they aren't who they said they were, exchange a few emails with them beforehand to get a feel for their personality... I met several of my closest friends online. I've actually stayed at people's houses before, though those were people from the Decemberists boards and I've been a member there for 2-3 years now.

Once I've been on a forum for long enough, I usually know / trust people enough to agree to staying places. I've met a guy out in Michigan, and gone to a few concerts with a guy up in Lynn, MA. The one guy who's up in Montreal is kind of reclusive, otherwise I would pay him in food and hugs and whatever else if I could crash there after the Outrement show in Feburary. I think I'll need to find a youth hostel instead...
I take a pretty liberal stance, though. If in a phone conversation you can verify that a person is probably not crazy...you're probably right.

Well, yeah, since whenever I go to a show, I try to go buy the tickets at the venue and check out the place. Really excited for that show though. =D
