Hi All:
Just got home from the show at the rebecca cohn auditorium in Halifax where Final Fantasy played with the Nova Scotia Symphonic Orchestra!
The show was absolutely fantastic! About half the crowd were symphony regulars and the other half FF fans. The songs sounded so superb that people were having trouble containing their praise at points.
The best news: it was recorded by the CBC and will be available sometime soon!
Setlist: * donates the symphony played during this song & donates that owner did not play during this song
o Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953): Classical Symphony (No. 1) *& o Arctic Circle * o He Poos Clouds * o Flare Gun o The Butcher o Oh Heartland, Up Yours! * o Honour The Dead, Or Else * o The Great Elsewhere * o (here owen deviated from the schedule, and I'm not sure what he played. It was fantastic) *
· Intermission o Pierre Mercure (1927-1966): Kaleidoscope 1948 *& o Independence Is No Solution o This Lamb Sells Condos o Lewis Takes Action * o Palm Desert * o Ultimatum * o Midnight Directives * o The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead (Ives Version) *
· Encore o Many Lives 49 MP o Took you two year to win my heart (this was supposed to be before the intermission with symphony, but he played it solo)
One of the best musical experiences of my life. In particular, Honor the dead or else, lewis takes action, and Ultimatum were transcendent.
If Owen reads this, could you note the name of the song played before the intermission?

So, as i expected, the show was amazing. It was my first time seeing Owen, and it definitely won't be my last. Everything he played was genius, but i was particularly pleased with 'Oh Heartland, Up Yours', it was really awesome to see it's debut performance. I have a suspicion that 'Independence Is No Solution' is actually 'What Do You Think Will Happen Now?', i guess we'll find out about then when we finally get Heartland in 2010. I was able to record the whole concert in mp3, they're not great, but they'll do until we can get the CBC radio recordings. I'll upload them in a few days. After the concert i had the privilege of meeting Owen, he was very cool in person. He signed my poster, and i got a picture with him. I can't wait to see him again.

Oh man, it sounds wonderful. I have a weird feeling that something like this might happen in Kitchener in the next year or so; I overheard the artistic director say "Owen Pallett songbook" and I was like, "Symphony Nova Scotia is doing it! WE should do it!"
Anyway, I am jealous that you got to see it.

That mp3 just makes me want to go to T.O and steal the album. Me too! I was talking to Owen after the show, and i told him that 'Oh Heartland, Up Yours' was amazing. Then he started talking how great it sounds on the album. Heartland is going to be the best album of 2010.

Owen was very nice to sign and pose with us. As was Thomas. I'm glad Owen put up with me wanting his full legal signature instead of the standard autograph. I'm a nut this way. I collect signatures. The set was awesome as this was the first time I've ever seen him play live. I got to be additionally entertained by a couple of stereotypical uppercrust types to my left. It was also a wonderful lesson in human behavior. The half of the audience that were fans applauded in between the movements of the Prokofiev piece (this piece was totally new to me also and I am glad the conductor explained why it was written since it wasn't the typical Prokofiev "sound") and thusly might have appeared "unsophisticated" to some. The other half who were mainly over 60 got to be surprised by some of the lyrics to the pieces. Sadly though, I think some of the FF fans left because they thought the intermission was the end of the show. Definitely worth the 13 hours drive up from the States. I mean, when will Owen play with a symphony again? But next we will try and have the posters not have his name misspelled And hello to Jamie! I see your dad did not abandon you at the hall

And hello to Jamie! I see your dad did not abandon you at the hall Haha! He was pretty pissed though. Getting a picture with Owen was kind of important though, even though it turned out pretty bad Good to see that you got home safely. My two friends and I were talking about how cool you were on the drive home.

Being from the US and no access to the CBC...if anyone sees signs of this show as a podcast or otherwise, please speak up! I could only locate it as having been recorded on CBC radio2's calendar.
