Was one of the best fucking shows I have ever been to. He was very happy to be here in Melbourne and he showed it with his banter. I'm still amazed at what I saw last night. I can't remember much of the set list but these songs did get played from what I can remember/recognized. This Lamb Sells Condos Cockatrice The Butcher Adventure Exe Win & Regine Cn Tower Many Lives Also John from The Mountain Goats joined him on stage for a cover of I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash. He was quite talkative and it was great. I will post more once I get my head around it

Was a really really great show. The Toff was a perfect venue (tiny stage with red curtains), it felt like we were all part of something incredibly special.
I could tell it was going to be a great night when the first thing I saw at the Merch desk was the two 10" EPs hot off the press - a handful were apparently grabbed from blocks just when they were pressed and brought straight to Aus - SWEET!
There were a couple of tracks in there that I have never ever heard before and they sounded so so good I cannot wait for Heartland.
The setlist as far as I can remember was along the lines of:
Unknown (Really Freaking cool) song This Lamb Sells Condos Cockatrice E is for Estranged The Butcher He Poos Clouds Another new song (?) Flare Gun This is the Dream of Win and Regine Many Lives Lewis Takes Action Hey Dad / <--- / The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead What Do You Think Will Happen Next? (This was the best fucking thing ever - it is my favourite song and I wasn't expecting it and it was just spectacular - those synth strings and those crunchy *nyeeergh* bits of violin in the verses and the way he broke it down to almost nothing in "put your lips to my ear turn your scream to a shout". SO GOOD!!!!!!) -------- Alpha Omega (With John from Mountain Goats (holy shit!!!)) Adventure.exe
I think I am still coming down from the show; it has been such a long long wait and it was the ideal venue and an incredible setlist and Owen was in top form with his banter. My favourite bit was just after Lewis Takes Action; "I'm really sorry for playing all these new songs, but I mean... *plays that really distorted violin from the end of the song* ....C'mon!"
I am anticipating so many lucky people to fall head-over-heels at Meredith tomorrow after seeing Final Fantasy - I really wish I could've gone. I am also anticipating more gushing reviews from the Vanguard show that just finished about now I think.
Come back soon Owen, you've got lots of friends here!!

The Vanguard show was wooonderrrful, a nice little venue as well. Definitely worth the trip down from Brisbane for! We got 2 encores! Although we heard that, shock horror, you guys in Melbourne didn't like What Do You Think Will Happen Next much. The support band was kind of... boring. I thought. 1. New song ("absolutely nothing... life of wonder and wonder"? 2. This Lamb Sells Condos 3. New song ("to do to do to do to do") 4. Cockatrice 5. The Butcher 6. Flare Gun 7. New song ("water barrel to the trough"?) 8. new song ("got a message for accolades") 9. Many Lives -> 49 MP 10. He Poos Clouds 11. This is the Dream of Win & Regine [someone's video: au.youtube.com/watch?v=AciDkSkZKns ] 12. Lewis Takes off His shirt - well i'm pretty sure. Encore 1 13. What Do You Think Will Happen Next 14. The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead Encore 2 15. Peach Plum Pear Which one of those is Lewis Takes Action & E is for Estranged? Also I think you guys bought out all the EPs, because there were none on the table and the "EPs" sign was crossed out. I asked for Blue Imelda but alas, Owen said he couldn't do that one yet. Was really hoping for projections by Steph as well!! But it was still fantastic, we were all blown away. Owen seemed really excited about What Do You Think Will Happen Next cuz we were all going "SONG SONG SONG" and he was like "Well i really wanna play this one and you'll see why". And it was awesome. It looks like 7 is E is for Estranged and 8 is Lewis Takes Action: shzine.proboards10.com/index.cgi?board=fantasy&action=display&thread=5407&page=3I don't know about the rest of the crowd, but WDYTWHN? was one of the most stunning pieces of live music I have ever witnessed. I guess the response was a little quieter than for others. People laughed at the "bright bright sun shiny day" ending as if it was an improvised joke put on the end of the song, so I guess not many people knew it.

Oh yes, thanks for that Cal. I recognise more of those lyrics now!! Are there recordings of these two anywhere?

The Sydney show was so utterly, utterly amazing! I think it was one of the greatest live performances I have ever seen, it was just an absolutely perfect night. The Vanguard is such a nice, relaxing venue and the crowd was really good - enthusiastic for Owen but respectful as he played. And Owen was just astounding, i've never seen anything like it. Even though he was playing all these brand new songs they were just as captivating as his old ones. Especially that song he said he couldn't get right to record, that song was brilliant.
I think I could gush forever, my friends and I sure have been. He was so lovely and nice as well in person, I really hope he comes back to Australia again really soon. It was such a wonderful way to end the year. My friends and I have just been positively glowing since that night. :-D
