i have this voucher for a plane ticket to BC so i'm going to take a trip for a week or so and bum around. are there many hostiles to stay at? what's fun to do in vancouver? are open mic nights common in the bar scene? i've never been there before, i'm excited as hell

thx again neil, though you have been emailed my brother might be coming with me now which is okay, but i'd rather just do whatever whenever and not have to think about dragging someone who is my polar opposite around i still want to know what kind of stuff you guys do there besides go to shows. are there cool bars or rock clubs? i'd love to play some songs somewhere if there's that sort of thing a foot

the entertainment section of the Province usually has a weekend events area. it covers clubs, art stuff, music, whatever. there's a few different places which have open mic/jam night, it's just a matter of finding them.

th zoo is also a good forty five minute - hour and a half drive (depending on traffic) from downtown and if you're on transit you'd need to get hooked up with a ride....unless there is a bus that goes to the zoo?
The Georgia Straight is another good paper for live events/open mic's and other cool things to do.
