i don't know if many of you guys are into rock mythology, but brian wilson started working on 'Smile' after he completed pet sounds (largely recognized to be one of the best pop albums ever) but ended up so deep in depression and drug excess that the output was considered 'inappropriate' and 'weird' by the rest of the beach boys. brian wilson was in his creative prime at this point and went bonkers pretty much. he was doing large amounts of LSD and other stuff and became somewhat schizophrenic, suffering from auditory hallucinations they released two tracks (good vibrations and heroes and villains) which were both #1 singles and give a glimpse at the genius awaiting the rest of the album, but it was shelved for a number of reasons and now has become a significant chapter in rock mythology. brian wilson, now in his sixties has now re-produced it and is releasing it on september 28th. on top of the that, he's touring the album and i get to see him on the 6th at massey hall in toronto. i'm so glad i get to see him before he dies... to hear tracks from it go to smilethealbum.com

well if you wanted to listen to 60's acid rock, sure you could listen to those bands. but pet sounds wasn't an acid rock album, so why are you even comparing them?

pet sounds was supposed to be a pop symphony of sorts, not a stoner album. its super clean sound gives it a real trippiness though, i love good harmonies when toking the reefer.
