the unicorns - just read an interview with them. sure, they're good songwriters...but they are full of shit.
dizzee rascal - i guess it's okay, but it just doesn't seem like hip hop to me.

I disagree about the Unicorns. I remember seeing them last year and not really liking them that much.. BUT, it looks like they've been working pretty hard, because their new stuff is really good! I love their new album. I saw them again in september, they have a hilarious live show and are genuinely very fun to watch. Have you even heard the new album? or have you just read a review and downloaded a few songs? I recomend listening to the whole thing before passing judgement. Maybe you did??
I agree about Dizzee Rascal.. but for different reasons. I think he has a unique sound.. but it just seems kind of flat. It lacks hooks and failed to grab my attention. After listening to the album, only one or two songs really stood out to me. A good effort for a young guy, but still.. it's not a bad album.
I know they haven't been very hyped lately, but I think the Locust are over-rated. Besides playing a very boring set the last time I saw them here in Vancouver (and yes.. at Mesa Luna.. bad sound aside..) the songs really didn't stand out from one another, even for the locust... I couldn't believe that something so loud, busy, and agressive could be so bland. Maybe I had higher expectations... very disappointed. I still really like some of their songs, but I don't think I'll go to their next show here.

Don't you hate it when everyone's talking about some new band and you hear them and they totally suck gas goat?
I agree about the Locust.. though I'm seeing them live for the first time tonight and we'll see how that goes
Toronto: it would make an equally nice parking lot.. only bigger and colder than vancouver

soul position - booooring. except for rjd2. he's still a cutie.
sean paul - no explanation necessary.
a silver mt. zion - just because we are related to godspeed doesn't mean that we can sing with middle-eastern voices and mention punk in our album titles!
the unicorns - meh.
frodus - sorry. i know lots of you like this band, and i know that because i mentioned them, JDP will compare the hand to the locust somehow, but this band is exceptionally bad. every time i try to give them a chance, their music gets increasingly worse! hahaha...well, that part was just a joke. but i still don't like them.
the hand - at the end of the battle in "8 mile," eminem rhymes about everything wrong with his life. when the other rapper gets his turn to rap, he is speechless because eminem had humbled himself and used up all the good material by making fun of himself. i might as well mention us before someone else tries to compare us to the locust...good luck RDP.
the new pornographers - i don't know. they seem pretty cool, but i just can't get into it.

personally, i really think frodus is over-rated (and please, jason, don't respond with some insightful comment suggesting how you're not a scenester or how you hate bands that have "the" in the name even though you've been in three, and don't respond with you're genius comment that you're waiting to write that the hand are over-rated). i've just never been able to understand what all the hype was about.
i feel the same way about atmosphere. every one seems to be so stoked on him, i just can't feel it. he seems like an even lamer eminem.
i also really think that the ignition remix by r. kelly is under-rated.

frodus isn't generally over-rated.. over-rated by jason and I, yes.. but the fact is I haven't met too many people who've actually heard them.. so really.. there's not that much rating going on
jason vs josiah is over-rated.. i envision a future of common sense and brotherly tolerance
mod, garage rock and new wave is over-rated.. ok i'll stop bringing up things that were recently popular
