In the recorded version of "Hey Dad", the opening melody on violin (it repeats throughout the song) sounds like when you enter into the clouds in levels in Mario 3. Owen, were you inspired by Mario 3?

The Coin Heaven bit has been mentioned before. If I can find the thread, I'll link you.

Am I just too much of a nerd? No one else has noticed this?

Owen posted this regarding the Mario homage: Well, my fine friend, if you look inside the liner notes of your copy of HAGH you would find the composer of Marlo Land 2 was acknowledged. It was my favourite piece of video game music when I was 12 and I put it on mix CDs. Embarassed that the recipient might find out that the song was from a video game, I would credit the song to the fictional band "Chuck", and called in "Mario In Space". Here's the link to the topic: shzine.proboards10.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=fantasy&thread=1155759481&page=1Cheers

He was talking about the recorded version of "Hey Dad" that Owen did with Zach Condon of Beirut.

Oh yes, given past precedence, there is no way this is a coincidence. Good catch!
And never fear, I am quite the fellow nerd; I've actually just never gotten around to playing Mario 3 (which is something I've been meaning to rectify, now that I think about it).

Total coincidence. Both melodies are a rip-off of "Brazil", anyway. I'm steering away from major sixths from now on.
