The wella woods of Belvedere, The peat and moss of Avenroe, St. Germain's canaries, The fortress of Alpentine.
Oh, my soul! My loyalty is to the East and Spectral man, and bird, and beast.
Red soil for the taking, Ruddy women for your brides.
All good men of valourous heart, consider a new start, And sail today for the Heartland!

Note that most of the work I did on this song was making sure the etymology of the made-up place names "jived". Looking for something equal parts "colonialism" and Lloyd Alexander.

I didn't know "wella" was a word outside the domain of hair products. And the dictionary refuses to shed light on it. Alas, these unknown galaxies. EDIT: I'm gonna guess it means a tree. But props for using the word "valourous." I bet you're killer at Scrabble, Owen.

Thanks for the lyrics I knew it couldn't have been "The well hard woods of Belvedere "or "The beaten moss of Avenroe" and I was struggling with "banaralous" (made up word), but now it's very clear.
Funny how when you have the lyrics your hearing improves. I guess it's because your brain make a conscious decsion to get it right.

i agree that this song sounds wonderful AS IS!!!
...and that explains why the vocals weren't buried lower in the mix! ahaha! (no, it's great, seriously, don't change it.) and i STILL just mumbled happily to just about everything except "Heartland"... Yay! for lyrics. Thanks!!

Looking for something equal parts "colonialism" and Lloyd Alexander. An unintentional homage? RIP, Lloyd Alexander.

Just wondering- was there a reason for changing the lyrics of the live version?
I was guessing that Owen wrote it awhile ago, then kept the rhythm and changed the lyrics to fit in with Heartland later.
Any suggestions?

So, is this song going to be on Heartland, or will is it just become a semi-related b-side, like Lewis' Dream. And if it does appear on the album, will it simply be a mixed version of the one we heard, or will it be redone with orchestras and the like?

Back when this first came out, I was convinced it was going to be on the album. Now I can't even imagine it being on Heartland, left as it is or redone. Then again, who knows...
