We (me and my Husband, Don) had a wonderful time at the Final Fantasy gig in Nottingham, it really was a Magical experience
We met Someone_else (Julian) in the Pit and Pendulum, before the gig. I love that pub so much, it’s really Gothic and has all sorts of stuff going on in there, everywhere you look! Gargoyles on the walls, toilets hidden behind secret doors in the bookcase, glass topped tables that contain all manner of spooky items and Occult stuff and cobwebs all over…..Vampire Chairs, little doorways and nooks and crannies, all lit up in red and green……just FAB
Julian went into The Social to set up his camera equipment, as he was filming again tonight. But we didn’t go in until the doors opened at 8.30….we stood chatting to the security guy outside and made sure we were first in line, as we wanted to make sure we got a place at the front.
While we were waiting, Owen came past us, wearing his Us Kids Know (that *other* site that we don’t mention here)
T Shirt!!!!
He stopped to say HI to us, which was lovely of him, but he couldn’t hang around as he was on his way to an Interview.
Then the doors finally opened WHOO HOOOOOO
It was a TINY venue (the best kind)
The venue, The Social, the gig was upstairs, the room probably only holds about 100 people I reckon
We got in and there was Julian with his camera gear right at the front of the stage, so we went and stood with him.
The first band on (Felix) were very good, I liked them a lot
Then it was time for Final Fantasy…..Owen just sorta appeared on stage, looking very relaxed and calm, took his shoes off and started to play
I was grinning from ear to ear…..here we were, stood about 3’ away from him BLISS
He looks so well, and was in really good spirits. His voice is just lovely and his playing is exquisite :wub Such a depth to his music and his voice is like an Angel one minute and yelling out like a punk the next
I love it
Steph was up on stage with him, who was doing the slide show, which really added to the atmosphere.
He did the first few songs on his own, then was joined on stage by Phillip on drums. It became a different sound now the drums were in too, but they really went well together and it was pretty impossible to stand still (not that I was really trying too hard)
At one point someone shouted for ‘No Cars Go’ and the guy behind me said to his girlfriend “that’s an Arcade Fire song” and she said “YES, I know that”
But he didn’t play it anyway
The only thing I would have wanted to be different about the set was that I wish it had been longer! An hour just went by way too fast, and I couldn’t believe it when Owen said that was the last song
I shouted for him to come back on, but he didn’t
Afterwards, when he was clearing up his stuff, I asked him if he’d mind putting his UKK T Shirt (from the *other site that we mustn’t mention*) back on and having his pic taken with me and Don, and bless him, he didn’t even hesitate, he just zipped it straight on and jumped down for the photo
He was very chatty and stood with me, Don and Julian for a while. I would love to have spoken more to him, but it was so noisy in there, that it was very difficult to hold a proper conversation!
We brought He Poo Clouds and the new Single, and a couple of T Shirts, and Owen signed the CD for us
We stayed for the last band, Corey Dargel) who didn’t come on for another hour, but were worth waiting for
www.automaticheartbreak.com/about.html We stayed for a little while after and we got to have another bit of chat to Owen before we left and I gave him a hug on the way out
…..he really is such a sweet guy
Someone_else set off for his long drive home, and me and Don walked back to our hotel, singing and chatting about what a fantastic night we’d had
The next day, after we’d checked out of the hotel, we had a wander around Nottingham, it’s such a lovely city. While we were mooching round the shops, Don with his Arcade Fire T Shirt on and me with my Final Fantasy T Shirt, this guy jumps in front of us, grins and says “hey, it’s the camera crew from last night”
I realised I’d still got my mobile phone switched off, and when I turned it on it beeped at me to say I’d got a text message….it was from Julian to say ‘DOORS ARE JUST OPENING’ awwwwwr as usual, I was left wishing for a time-machine
If anyone hasn’t got tickets to the Manchester gig yet, and if you have a chance to go, then I can’t tell you enough how much you SHOULD! I promise you’ll be so glad you did
Some Final Fantasy pics that Don took last night
Love on ya
