Arcade Fire are playing Rebellion on Top Of The Pops this afternoon.
For those of you who don't know, Top Of The Pops is a long-running BBC show.
Playing this show is the final nail in the coffin for Arcade Fire's indie credibility.
Nevertheless, I assure you, "I haven't eaten all day."

arggh! no way. umm is it actually being show this evening? or are they recording it today!? they weren't on this evening's, never fear -- so recording it must've been. i was watching because two very groovy people i know were drafted in to play trumpet & sax for jamie cullum -- that is, MIME being a whole brass section while smirking coolly about the whole thing. i'm sure there was a brief period when performers on top of the pops were actually allowed to play live, but that seems long gone... so yes. last nail indeed. (said in the appropriate "i'm not an indie hipster, really" voice to minimise drama)

No lip-synching. It was performed live. It was ok.
Backstage all they had in the men's dressing room was Jager and Krispy Kremes. Krispy Kremes are seriously like poisonous mushrooms. You won't be able to see it, but there was a riot going on in my stomach the entire time.

No lip-synching but the violin wasn't plugged in! I'm just kidding! :-)

leave AF alone. believe it or not, commercial success does come to those who deserve it once in a while. if anything, their newfound popularity just shows that you dont have to wear cool clothes and aviator glasses to 'get' genuinely passionate music. sheesh folks, its the same cd you all loved last year.

The thing with commercial music is that you get to hear it all the time, everywhere you go and every channel you put your telly on. It's like food you don't like but have to eat it, you can always say: "Well, don't listen to it!" But that's easier said than done. I have a radio on my work and it's always on, I like music in the background while I'm working but I don't want to hear the same song over and over again.

I agree but I wouldn't have even gone that far. If the record is better than Coldplay's (and it is) and it hasn't sold quite as many (approximately 2% of what Coldplay has sold) then why is there backlash?

I like arcade fire a lot and respect the way they've dealt with the sudden popularity of their little band. I reeeeaaalllly hope it doesnt get to their heads, we wouldn't want funeral to live up to its name, now would we? As for comparing Coldplay's sales to Arcade fire's? We all must have realized by now that people are very fond of their mediocre music, and that the best records ever made had much much much lower sales than say, fiddy.

top of the pops used to be the only place to hear mind blowing music on the t.v. alas now a days its more likely to be the O.C. still people need to hear Arcade Fire, and if top of the pops englights a couple of bewildered coldplay fans then i say stick it to them!
will you come do a date in Ireland soon please Mr. Pallett, electric picnic was wonderfully brilliant!would love to see you do your solo stuff!

AF were reliably fantastic tonight on TOTP. They are wonderful musicians with amazing talent and lots of human kindess.I have seen them 4 times and want more. They were a breath of fresh air on TOTP, Owen is a brilliant violinist and I love his dry wit,the whole bad gel together and really entertain the soul...
thankyou
