I've generally been a SpectroGel kind of guy but recently I tried using an expensive Clinique witch-hazel based "scruffing lotion" at the recommendation of my former work colleague Jess Milton, who has absolutely perfect skin.
There have been a lot of airplane flights in the last month (8) so my pores have been craterous.
Unfortunately, all the "scruffing lotion" did was accentuate the dark marks under my eyes... and I continue to be pimply and porous.
(Should you not believe me, enjoy the pictures recently posted of the Liverpool gig. I look most cadaverous.)
If anybody has any recommendations for male skin maintenance--preferably less product oriented, and no flaky honey-based solutions either, thanks--I would love to hear them.
In fact, I think I'd like to start a hygeine thread specifically devoted to the sharing of "tips" and "product scouting". We DO all want to look our best.

From what i've gathered all the people with good skin generally don't use any products or whatnot, its just how they are. Most people with really bad skin touch thier faces alot, so dont do any of that. I think pimples and all that are partially heretitary, i've given up on mine. Milk , smoking, and other things you might intake can be pretty bad. Basicly what i'm saying is your probably better off stoping the things that cause your pimples instead of adding another product into the mix.

OH! And owen or anyone else who plays violin! I've been playing this viola for about a month now, and the whole time i've been storing my bow tight instead of loose, and just tighting it more every time i go to play it. So now theres a big friggin crack in the damn thing, so um, im just looking for general string instrument care tips.

LOOSEN THE THING! though, yeah, you've realised this already. let that serve as a rather expensive cautionary tale...

so it wasn't nervous exhaustion or the like, but merely a touch of masculine skincare issues. well that's reassuring to know.

expensive? Its a pretty crappy bow, someone stole the viola I have from some highschool back in like, the 80s. good news is the bow still works! I have discovered that i can make just as good a sound with it looser as i could with it tight! Wow. Some friendly hippy told me that i shouldn't store it in its case, but hanging on a wall, he says tie some metal string stuff around the top of it and hang it off the wall to take tension off the bridge.

LaRoche-Posay makes this gel called Effaclar, now available at Shoppers I believe. A good minute of 'scruffing', morning and night, ... Smiling helps.
