Burn Rome In A Dream's new record is wonderful. Instrumental music is a tall order for a rock band.
Also: Antony & The Johnsons! Who knew that he'd make such an amazing record? I mean, his last album was so perfect & pretty that all you could hear was his wretched lyrics. This one is awash with amazing pockmarks and mistakes...
I can picture Antony in the mastering suite, tears streaming down his cheeks, thinking, "Why didn't I redo that piano take? Why didn't I make that vocal melody more in tune? Why didn't I nix Devendra's sloppy guitar playing? PEOPLE ARE GOING TO THINK I'M AN AMATEUR!!!"
The amateurism of Antony's record is what makes it so wonderful. Finally, he's taken a risk and it's so worthwhile! He rhymes "breast amputation" with "anhillation"! He hits a wrong note and sighs! IT'S SO GOOD I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE A BETTER RECORD!
Except, maybe, Destroyer's "Your Blues", which KILLS.

Ok. I didn't want this to be bloggy or anything.
But if you're from the USA and you haven't heard any of the other bands on Blocks you're a FUCKUP and a LOSER.
So go to the site and listen to such winners as the HANK tracks and The Phonemes. The Deep Dark United record is also fantastic.
Also amazing: THE BLOW! The new EP is so great and Khaela and Jona are so sweet and smart.
Khaela tried convincing me that non-monogamy was a "good thing" today. I disagreed... a tough thing to do in the face of such a lovely and perfect woman.
Later, Patrick was like, "Uh huh. I just loooooove noble Owen."

Hey I'm JUST KIDDING about the "fuckup" and "loser" remarks.
But the bands on Blocks will enrich your life, serious.

Alright, well I guess this is a usual groupie/noob post, but I'm a huge fan of your work, Owen .. despite the limited discography. I heard "This is the dream of Win and Regine" at my friend's house (he went to the DC show of Arcade Fire) man .. hot shit. I thought I might as well burn the CD but realized Blocks is probably barely not broke .. so I didn't buy it. Go figure. Hopefully I can order it sometime soon. Word. Anyways, I've been trying out an arrangement for "This the dream..." on sitar, and so far it sounds good. Thanks for the music, man.

Antony And The Johnsons are great—in small dozes, their like chocolate.
“Fistfull Of Love” has been one of those tracks I’ve been playing fuck outta lately.
I find I can’t really get through the whole album though. After a certain point dudes wavering vocals just drive me all batty.
anyways.... Good show again last night.

But it's SOLD OUT! and they're not making no more! Her new record (album) I think has much of the EP on it. If not, that's okay, because I hear the album SMOKES the EP.

Different mixes of some songs from the EP, i guess. and the vinyl is still available. Plus it will be on iTunes soonish. I want the new record NOW dammit.
Here is my "how i met khaela maricich" story.
She came to play at my college in 2001. I bought her tape before she played her set, which confused her. Back then it was her voice and a guitar and weird bossanova songs. It wasn't what people expected. I think because of the name "Get The Hell Out Of The Way Of The Volcano" they were expecting loud cathartic rock. But everyone still loved it. We played wall-ball after the show.
The next day we went thrift store shopping. I was looking at scarves. I was looking mostly at dull, drab, tasteful navy, grey, and tan plaid scarves. Khaela was like "No! You should get THIS ONE!" as she selected a bright red scarf. I'm talking [glow=red,2,300]BRIGHT RED!!![/glow]A courageous, extroverted scarf. I took her advice, and it was totally effing lifechanging. Seriously.
