1/4/08: the not-so-solo show

fun show. ches did some congs for brums and mary pearson and david did some transformation surprise. barr played an improv set with an ipod, a sampler, and a mic. then jamie and ches took the stage:

i shot most of it, albeit in a very dark setting. audio's good though. jamie choked on honey. he also had other lyrics for helsabot something with "i forgive you", and a repeat on "i can only say it so many times" on clover.

david's book is cool, very well packaged and has little essays on the project by the band and some others like freddy ruppert and mary pearson. good times.

this show sounds like jamie playing solo with some annoying person just hitting a garbage can. ohhhhh wait thats ches...

ive always liked xiu xiu better with drum machine/found sound/pots and pans. ches is such a nice guy that i hate to say anything disparaging but i preferred xx without him. adding a string player though seems like a nice idea

oh yeah and ive noticed that ches's kit sounds very poorly/amateurly miked on all the songs hes on--like theres just some condenser sitting off to the side recording everything. im not saying its an inuitive process that they just fucked up, but its seldom that you hear that on studio recordings
