what is this thing on indietorrents?? i just downloaded it and its total trash. just 22 tracks of fuzzy talking and maybe 5 songs that are barely listenable scattered somewhere in between.. the only thing worth listening to was the casiotone instrumental and barr's 'b-side is silent' which most of us have already anyway. why was this even released? its tough for me even to call it "art"; it just comes off as pretentious.

it's the record giving with the xiu xiu Polaroid book. you know, a book, the thing made of paper with words and images on it. But like you can't download it you may not know... me hard drive would beg to differ! it's about 25% filled with photography art books and nonfiction literature...but i only have 1 audiobook...even have two tunnel books, but those aren't that fun without holding 'em. now, if i misunderstood you and you meant you are not able to download the tunes from the vinyl, then you're wrong again. basically what you need for a more or less decent recording is a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable, one end goes to your stereo headphones/speakers/line out the other goes to line in/microphone in on your soundcard in. though you might have a different headphones/line out hole on your stereo..but for most common soundcards it is indeed 3.5mm. then you'll need some freeware/trial version of sound recorder and mp3 encoder...goldwave does both. www.goldwave.com/ the next step is setting the recording source in windows or any other program that might take those controls of soundcard functions on itself..so i can't suggest anything here without knowing your setup. when it's all set you create a new file in goldwave (set the length and do other setting if needed) then start the recording in goldwave and the playback on your stereo/any other player you may use..then save the recording to mp3 and that's it. you might want to split it to tracks later... that's just one of many ways to go about it.

I just mean that the CD is part of the project with the polaroid book, it's not an album in the classic way (nor a compilation), it's a documentation of moments, like the pictures of the book. This book is absolutly great as for the picture and as an object. You can watch the pictures on your computer but you'll miss the piece of art. It's like watching a photo of an art installation instead of going to the museum. ...and I'm not a purist about the quality of sounds or images : MP3 sound quality fits me very well.
