Xiu Xiu Announce Women As Lovers iTunes Exclusives
The iTunes version of Women As Lovers, Xiu Xiu’s new album coming out January 29th on Kill Rock Stars, will feature five unreleased songs:
“From the Balcony to the Mud, Part 1”
“Kitten Revolution”
“There Are Two Men in a Red Mercedes Trying to Rape a Woman in My Parking Space”
“Juarez”
“From the Balcony to the Mud, Part 2”
“From the Balcony to the Mud, Part 1” and “From the Balcony to the Mud, Part 2” were meant to be book ends to Women As Lovers. They were the first and last songs Xiu Xiu recorded while making their new album.
The day before Caralee McElroy moved from Seattle to San Francisco, she and her best friend Mike were jumped and violently gay bashed. She was cut up and Mike had his face kicked in. This happened to Mike six months before and he responded by saying not to worry, that he was becoming used to it. “Kitten Revolution” features Howard Wiley on saxophone.
“There Are Two Men in a Red Mercedes Trying to Rape a Woman in My Parking Space”
“My neighborhood has become increasingly more dangerous and it never was not before,” says Jamie Stewart. “Devin (Hoff) was held up at gun point in front of our apartment and I came home to witness this attempted rape. I have no idea if the woman is safe as I was calling the police they drove off, her still struggling.”
In Juarez, Mexico there has been an endless rash of serial rapes and brutal murders of young women. It is believed that the serial killers are protected by local police and that the crimes are in some way connected to violent sex ring that the local government participates in. “Juarez” features Eugene Robinson of Oxbow on vocals. “He came to my apartment at 11pm one night and turned his headphones up to a mind bending level,” says Stewart. “Eugene did two crushing takes and left by 11:15. It was incredible.”
