I basically agree with everything in your post. During Ches' set the talking in the back of the room just escalated from very quite to VERY noisy. And Grouper was good, even though I wasn't really in the mood.
I saw XX again tonight at Riottt Festival, and it was the same set, but very abbreviated.

great show at the great american music hall all around!
i agree with the previous posts that there was talking during ches's drum set. . . but I took this in a different way. The people in the background talking, I think was an indicator of how amazingly precise and melodic Ches's music is. People in the back must have felt that the performance was background music to their party. Music is enjoyed in many ways, and for these people, it was a supplement, not the center point of their night out.
me on the other hand, I was up front with my jaw dropped to the ground most likely drooling. Freakin' amazing.
Another observation about the show: ... what's up with everyone trying to yell out something quirky or pseudo-offensive during the b/t song silences? the novelty of that wore off pretty quickly.

virtually no one watched ches's set in okc. it was basically just me and my friend standing at the front. i don't know why people wouldn't be down with his stuff

at the paradox, everyone was really into ches' set. no one listened to grouper except for like five people though. there were like five openers though and she had to follow parenthetical girls.
