Yeah, someone needs to put up links to the files or something. I can't handle this.

I've been scrawling through Soulseek for hours and I still can't find either file. Can someone please upload it to yousendit/rapidshare etc? Or at least log into Soulseek and leave the computer on for a couple of hours so we can all download them?

i'm just putting it out there: jamie has said time and time again he does not appreciate people downloading and/or sharing yet to be released xiu xiu songs or albums. it does him a disservice. that is all.

Not releasing the album sooner is a disservice to me. I'd say we're even.

I can see how Jamie wouldn't want people to listen to unreleased tracks, but when you have the album artwork and songs staring you in the face in May, and the album's being released in September, it's hard not to bite. The best way to not have people listening to your unreleased tracks is to not let them leak in the first place. (Or just make really terrible music.)

i'm sure jamie wouldn't listen to a leak of a smiths reunion album, right?
but seriously, i can appreciate that it would make an artist uncomfortable for us to listen to a leak, but it seems like we're hearing the completed version here. and when so many artists (basically all) are releasing their stuff in digital formats, it's disingenuous to claim that people aren't getting the "final product" with mp3s, cause mp3s are increasingly becoming the "final product."
once you put music out there, it's out there. presumably that's why you made it in the first place. that's the nature of music. anything that gets digitized is going to get out there. it's ulimately the music industry that will always be fighting the latest developments in technology (at least until they think they can turn them to their own advantage) to keep squeezing consumers in the most effective fashion.
ownership over culture should remain in the hands of the people. i don't see downloading music any more problematic than sampling was or home taping. i think we collectively need to get over it.

Wow, they are very minimal and quietly dissonant, almost classical avant garde sounding (it matches the artwork). I really love Boy Soprano but the noiselessness of the production of the other two tracks needs time to grow on me. They are still pretty awesome though. But I hope there is a couple of "screaming vocal"/high anxiety manic depressive tracks to balance it out.

yeah i know... anyway, i think these tracks sound great, they have more of that unpredictable vibe that's been somewhat missing since knife play. maybe that's because this is the first album that cory hasn't produced since then?

woah a bunch of new folk all at once. look what this leak has done!!
i can wait til i buy it. i dont want to have a piece of the album before i hear it all at once. when i first get an album i ususally like to listen to it all the way through unless the songs have slowly been leaking for the past 6 months or so.

something i do a lot is if i take the album for free from a torrent site or something, when i see the performer live, i approach them, hand them cash equal to the price of what i should have paid for, and tell them its for their album i took online, and they can distribute the money if they want. its actually worked in instances where i acted this out, and usually theyre very grateful.

"when you have the album artwork and songs staring you in the face in May"
*would you rather not have anything from the album until september? don't bite the hand that feeds you.*
"the album's being released in September, it's hard not to bite. "
*it's a general rule of labels to have an album submitted to a label 6 months in advance of its release, in order to assure time for reprints if there are mistakes and also to schedule press stuff, interview, buzz, etc.. krs/5rc got "the air force" by april 14th, so the fact that they are releasing it in september rather than october is a luxury for us*
"The best way to not have people listening to your unreleased tracks is to not let them leak in the first place. "
*I highly doubt the band leaked them, knowing Jamie's position on this. It was probably someone at a radio station or label who didn't care what his/her boss told them about sharing rare songs that he/she has the privelage to encounter with a job in the music industry.*
" but it seems like we're hearing the completed version here. "
*even more of a reason to not spread it around, it's not a remix or a live version, which jamie's said he's totally fine with being spread, it's the final product of a year's worth of work.*
"i don't see downloading music any more problematic than sampling was or home taping."
*the issue isn't download music in general, per-se, i'm cool with that. same thing with sampling or home taping. the issue is that an album that is to be released in 4 months and 20 days has already had 1/4th of its songs leaked, and the band has specifically said they don't appreciate it. with all the focus on xiu xiu being a real, affectionate, personal band, you guys are treating jamie like shit.*
