i usually play "i broke up" as the first song, since it was the first song i heard, and i still think of it as a perfect example of their sound my first song was "ian curtis wishlist", which i usually play to people first. if they can handle that one they're a-ok^^ in fact xiuxiu has been categorized "emo-electronics" on the festival in the hague, netherlands i saw them |

first song was technically "crank heart" but I Lub t3h V4lley was the first I really listened to, over, and over, and over, since it was the only song I had actually heard of through other means.

i also play "i broke up" and then follow up with "i luv the valley, OH!" when introducing new listeners, since they were my first xiu xiu songs as well. i love the shock. i can recall driving to baltimore with two friends of mine and playing ian curtis wishlist and my friends laughing their asses off and saying "what the fuck is this". 1/2 of them converted to xiuism.

well, back in the day when i was actually trying to convert all of my friends to the wonders of xiu, only knife play and a promise were out, so i'd usually begin with "i broke up"... if they showed any promise (ie. didn't scream over the radio), then i would play "suha", then "apistat", and finally "sad pony guerilla girl" ... maybe "hives", but with those four songs, they would usually understand the general spread of xiu xiu's music (at least, at the time; now i'd probably throw in "i luv the valley", "crank heart" and maybe "satrun" or "j-lo")
