I want to join the air-force because I'm too stupid and too greedy to do anything but still be the biggest. Why should I care if I get killed? Hero!

Why should I care if I get killed? as an american who saw high school recruiters turning the charm on before the shit really hit the fan overseas, i have to object to this. yeah, there are linebackers with guns out there who get whatever they have coming to them, but there are also a lot of people who were tricked into thinking "a few years of this and then i can go to a good school."

Way to catch the ref there. i caught the ref just fine. what bothers me is that people turn it into ironic jokes. what i'm saying is that not everyone joins the military with a throbbing dick. jamie's words in Support Our Troops (which i have heard, obviously, i'm on a xiu xiu board) seem to be specifically aimed at a type of meathead who gets a kick out of killing people. i think it's the most powerful song on the album, and it's completely true in certain cases. and if i remember right, jamie himself said that he wrote that song in response to a news article about one particular person. there was a report about americans shooting dogs in iraq for sport too. that doesn't mean everybody does it. have you seen the shit that they mail to 16 year olds now? have you seen the commercials on tv? it's so much like brainwashing it's scary. as a rule of thumb, it's bad manners to laugh about people dying. you'd be no better than the guy nextdoor cracking aids jokes. think about it.

I think it's interesting how you use the phrase
"throbbing dick"
as an allegory for "desire to use violence against others"

killing another person is never okay in my opinion. if you think going through a few years of killing will help you pay for your schooling, youre still a fucking idiot.
anyone who is willing to fire a bullet into the body of another human being (nonetheless by the order of another person or their government), regardless of who they are, i do not support them with a single cell in my body. I would never intentionally hurt these people who find it okay to kill, I just don't hold the same respect for the person.

My best friend's in the Army Reserves, and just got home after almost an year and a half in Iraq. When he got back I drove him 460 miles so he could see Xiu Xiu with me. Not only were Jamie and Caralee incredibly nice to both of us, but he put us on the guest list and didn't get upset at all the shit I put them through.
My friend now loves Xiu Xiu after seeing them live, and really loves "Suppor Our Troops". Too bad I'm gonna have to tell him that there's a dude named lysine on the internet that thinks he's a dickhead. =(

Man, don't censor yourself over me. You don't have to say sorry either. Your views are perfectly fine with me. We just think on different wavelengths. It's not like we're going to try and convince the other of our points of view. We're doing just fine the way we are now. If this topic keeps going and you want to add your own stance on it, go right ahead. Don't worry about possibly offending me or anyone else. It's free public discourse. You make sure and contribute to it.
